Lawrence's wrx with AVO 550 turbo and then TD05-18G turbo

Lawrence's wrx with AVO 550 turbo and then TD05-18G turbo

Lawrence is a damn funny brudder... hahaha, one look at him and you bet he had a wild wild woohoo time in his younger days. Every time I see him, oh man, his pussy-in-boobs stories never fails to keep us smiling, man... the last time we met, he asked if I have seen 19" dicks before... OMG... how many of your friends can say that to you and show you in their cell phones these black mamas sticking out their choco horses and xxx.... kekeke

Ok, AVO550 turbo was his original turbo, before that he had something else... yes, you're right, some people just prints money one... kekeke... AVO 550 turbo are big arse turbo who have enough milk to feed the entire nation. Nasty... the problem with that turbo, like I warned him, is that it is darn good at running top speeds on subarus, but, on the low end side, its a little too laggy... he say ok one... he like laggy old granny loose ass...

A couple of weeks later, I see him again... Now with a TD05-18G and ready for tuning... hahaha... sam of course say this say that la... as usual... he still have to lup in that 18G turbo for Lawrence... Lawrence waited until he dulan... hahaha... as usual la...

Now, Lawrence used to be running full 3" straight through exhaust system. After a while, I think he sense his ears are not very good liaoz, so, he decided to go stock exhaust with a Trust Muffler. That muffler is damn LTA complaint lor... coz, the silencer still inside... hiaz... yah, he got a lot of exhaust pipes in his storeroom, and guess what, funny-man wanna tune his ride with stock straws... ok... no choice...

1.6 bars of boost on this turbo easily churns out a good 50~60 kg of torque on this 2.0L stroker engine. Yes yes,... can go higher... i know... judging by the way the turbo is pushing the car past 1.6 Bars region, brudder, not much difference in bhp man.... Lawrence pinched his lips together and puffed hard, showing us a good illustration of his exhaust pipes stuck bad like a yakult straw... hahaha... funny guy... just thinking of his funny face make me smile ... hahaha

yup, sucky stock pipes not giving a good show that day... Lawrence was inside while we tuned his horse. I can tell on his face that he is contemplating between powervalve or loud kick ass full exhaust system... anyway, the most I can do is advise him to return again with a better exhaust system for that 1.9 bars of boost... This fabulous stroker kit is done by GTR Tech., those old folks there done a darn good job with his hardware, Sam did the turbo installation and I did the ECU reflash... Owner used to run on Microtech ecu, and he opted for lesser response but better FC, then GTR send him to us for the reflash... Car have zero complains pushing 1.9 and beyond... yes,... we went beyond 1.9 bars... kekeke... I think Xiao Jian's reads my blog too... Sam say he will boost up some more after CNY... he say gong xi Fatt chai to you this CNY ... enjoy first.... kekeke...you can Gong Lei Fark him after CNY hahaha... just kidding... me no flamer hor... hahaha... just kidding only.. hahaha Xiao jian's forged engine past 1.9? no problem ... sam say one.. muahahahaha

TD05-18G on a 2 litre engine spools up quick on gear 1 at 3800 rpm. And on gear 2, its about 3500 rpm... Gear 3 is around 3300rpm, you step, you get the 1.9 bar of boost... G wise, its massive. 18G is a good turbo for those who have already experience turbo charged rides and a little bored of that low end, no high end effect of small turbo. Or those who are sick of needing to step so much just to get ahead of a puny Mark X... kekeke...

This turbo pushes the powerband further up the revs and give good FC during day-to-day drives. Although this turbo is not kick ass like the sumo, it is more suitable for the average day-to-day user who looks for more power, not so much a show stealer for that 40 tiang drag race though.

Anyway, Lawrence is damn experience with his hardware... he have been modifying his ride for ages, more like a hobby kind of thing and that occasional top speed runs at 300 km/h to Thailand in 5 hours is in his usual holiday plans... Every now and then, he will pop by to have his exhaust done and stuff... hahaha...

Overall, this subaru WRX has done quite a bit with fully forged internals, modified turbo actuators, complete fuel system, brembo brakes, trust exhuast system, GTR custom boost controller, td05-18G turbo (what spec? ask Sam) and many more, except meters :)... all controlled via stock ECU reflashed. It scores very well for street sillypore use... Traffic to traffic is good, of course a slightly smaller turbo on this 2 litre will score better for short sprints, and high speed wise, it is above average as compared to kick ass sumo and AVO 550. Car runs on top mount IC... hahaha... yah, FMIC better ... kekeke... anyway... to each his own taste and preference... :)

ps
sam's on leave for CNY period and will open again this Friday.... For those turbo kits done by amatuer, if Sam ever mentioned to you about your fuel pipings or any rubber pipings thats needs to be changed, pls, remind him and come back to change them... ALL rubber pipings got SAE rating one... and those used for fuel cannot interchange and use for Oil. Water still not so bad,... but water and air, better use Silicon... wanna know why? Ask Sam. I'm only tuner... kekeke... hahaha... okok... i know why, but, lets leave the hardware technicalities outside our blog right? hahaha Have a properous Lunar New Year, a wonderful feng shui ahead in 2009 !!

Gerald's 502bhp wrx with td06-25G turbo

Gerald's 502bhp wrx with td06-25G turbo

Gerald owns one of the nicest wrx in singapore. Custom wide body kit, matt black, cool interiors, nice ICE, great sound proofing and loads of meters to like up your x'mas tree.

Well, Gerald was previously running on a big arse turbo which gave him 580 bhp on engine. BUt, it seems that too much of those high rpm power and lack of low end power made him itch for the low end 'G' feeling. Not often do you get the chance to wack top speeds in singapore la... So, 90% of the time, he has to make do with the sluggish low rpm power.

He now decided to lup in a TD06-25G turbo. Not a small turbo I know, but, not too big also. This turbo spools up around 4500 rpm on gear 1 with 1.9 bars of boost and packs a massive 70KG of torque! This ensures the passenger's head slams the head rest each time he wants their attention. Gerald's a nice guy la,... he only slams your head once or twice then turns to you to ask if you're ok... hahaha...

This ride goes onto the Dyno to trim those cock hairs on the dyno curves. Our target? 500 bhp on this turbo.

After wacking Alex's Dyno, we managed an easy 480 bhp on crank at 1.9 Bar of boost. After pushing the car a little, we managed to hit a comfortable 495 bhp. Sam turns to me and asked me to push it a little more...coz, its just a little cock hair away from 500... kekeke... I said ok, But, just to cross the 500 line and thats it. I wanted to retain the forged pistons and conrods on this 2.5L engine.

Crossing the 500 bhp marker, we clocked a good and safe 502bhp WRX for gerald. Spool up is smooth and massive at 4500 rpm. On Gear 3, the wrx engine roars even fiercer and manage to spool 1.9 Bar of boost at 3500 rpm. Satisfied, we deceided to test the powervalve effect.

With the exhaust powervalve off, we clocked 400bhp at 7500 rpm, compared to turning on the powervalve, we clocked 502 bhp at 7500 rpm. This means that if Gerald drags his bat mobile at 40 tiang, at 7500 rpm, his ride will have a difference of 100 bhp at 7500 rpm. It equates to the car pulling harder and stronger as the RPM increases. Cool.

We compare this with another wrx with stock 3 inch exhaust system. This other wrx is running on TD05-18G turbo and boost 1.9 bars of boost, and on gear 4, the exhaust is clearly restricting the engine from producing any noticeable power after 1.6 bars of boost. The owner have been advised to rebuild his exhaust system or, to keep it at lower boost settings. Its meaningless to churn out 1.9 bar without much difference.

Anyway, owner is not new to car modifications la.... he already done so much, he also have a couple of exhuast in his storeroom... he used to run on twin scroll and stuff and now using a fully forged engine with titanium valves, titanium spring and retainers. More of a storker engine than anything. He was in the car when we were pulling the redlines and it was plain clear to all of us that the exhaust is not doing its part to give a good show... Anyway, the tuning is compensated for the rebuild of the exhaust and all he needs to do is come down and have a quick check on the mappings.

In our bat mobile story, powervalve, 1.9 bars of boost, 502 bhp on crank, brembo brakes, wide body kit, 3" full exhaust system, forged pistons, forged conrods, big ass front mount intercooler and an ECU reflash is giving a good show and Gerald? Smiling and having a great time enjoying the "G" forces from this fantastic turbo.

Idling wise, very very smooth. No stalling, no jerking. FC? 8.5km/L. Boost 1.9 Bars. Day-to-day driving is as per stock.

I for one enjoyed every moment tuning this ride. After sitting on the Dyno, I was like super eager to bring this bat mobile out to test drive. OMG... So damn smooth and low end response is fantastic! The car feels so lively and responsive. His triple plate carbon clutch is wet wet... hahaha... Certainly a ride worth smiling about.

I went outside and once got the chance, I floored .... at 3500 rpm... omg... the car pulls like no tomorrow. Gear 3... thats the gear that makes your eye balls pop so big, it makes you so grateful the eye balls have eye sockets that prevents the balls from popping out. I released the gas at 6500 rpm on gear 3. Didnt want to try gear 4 la... hahaha...

Whats next on this ride? I would suggest forged engine sleeves. Evil? yeah... Lets milk that big arse turbo brudder... kekeke

Lawrence's wrx with AVO 550 turbo and then TD05-18G turbo

Mitsubishi Lancer Ex 1.5 Turbo

Mitsubishi Lancer Ex 1.5 Turbo

The No. 1 Lancer Ex turbo in singapore was done using Emanage Ultimate, we decided this time round, we are going to try Unichip Q to tune this ride. To chatch a glimpse of the action using Emanage ultimate, click Lancer Ex 1.5 Turbo Charged

The owner of this fabulous ride is a car person. He is not the kind the drags down the alley. The lancer Ex 1.5 is a great ride to own. The comfort and style is in line with the latest designs in the market. Sam talks to the owner to understand what he is looking for and this time round, he decides that a TF-035 turbo which is the one used in the Colt Version R and Colt plus turbo will be turbo of choice.

The objective this time is to help the low end pickup and moving off from traffic.

We are retaining all the comfort that this ride has, the new car effect and smell hahaha. We wanted everything to feel like a factory stock Colt plus turbo, at a fraction of the price of course.

The burning question people have is, is unichip better than Ultimate? Well, to answer that, we must first ask ourselves, how far are going, in terms of car modification. If we're planning a simple bolt-on Turbo Kit, I would go for unichip for its price. However, if powervalve, cams, water-methanol injection kit and NOS is also in your wish list, then I would advise going for ultimate. Ultimate as dip switches and many many more functions to control your car as compared to Unichip. Unichip wise, you can still achieve 80% of ultimate's capabilities, except that you need to keep upgrading the unichip as you go along. For example, to control the 4 stock main injectors, the unichip requries another addtional module called the injector overdrive, which this comes in-built in ultimate.

Needless to say, both these piggybacks are excellent product and would advise to pick the one that suits your budget and mod. list. Talk to sam to get a better view of the picture, he will be more than willing to share his knowledge... kekeke

Ok, Lancer Ex 1.5 with TF-035 effect? Well, a simple way to explain myself would be to ask that you walk to the showroom to test drive the Lancer colt plus turbo or the colt version R. Then add another 30 bhp to that test drive feeling will be the effect of this No.1 Mitsubishi Lancer Ex. Turbo running on Unichip Q.

With all the previous knowledge on Ultimate's setting, we imparted to tuning unichip's settings. It wasnt straight forward and we took a couple of long hours working on this new setup.

TF-035 turbo on this lancer Ex 1.5 manages to achieve full boost at 2200rpm. This ensure maximum pickup enhancement on this ride. Of course, if we compare this with a TD04 turbo, TD04 will mean the car have a better high end and fair better on a drag race. Now, bear in mind, that this owner is not looking for high end power. No point giving him a 4500~7000 rpm powerband whereby the owner shifts gear at 3000 rpm right? So, our focus is on low-end.

This ride comes with 1.5L Mivec engine. With this added advantage, our dyno charts should show roughly 170bhp region on engine, similar to emanage ultimate setup in TD-04. Feeling wise, is identical to a slightly souped up Colt version R.

Gear 1, we stepped hard on the gas, and the car now willingly surges forward. It felt like a 2 Litre moving off effect. When the Rpm reaches 2000 rpm, the turbo propels the car forward like a honda's vtec effect, when the car reach 2500 rpm, it is already generating full boost and turbo is propelling the car forward. At 4500 rpm, the turbo runs out of breath... it feel like a stock 2.0L ride during the 4500~7000 rpm. When gear 2 engages, the turbo immediately spools up to give that torquey effect at 3500 region, Mivec takes effect. Mivec gives this ride that added advantage as compared to other ride without this technology during the mid-rpm region. High rpm 5500 and above, well... if you need power at this range, try TD04 or VF35... :)

Overall, this setup is excellent for those you really like the power of Colt plus turbo and loves everything else about the lancer Ex. I would also advise those people who likes this kind of setup to stick the GT badge behind hahaha... We are retaining a completely quiet drive. Exactly like stock Version R. So, with the GT badge, people can assume its a GT or something... Better still like Francis commented on this blog, stick Version-R badge hahaa... Evil.

Setup comprises of:
Bolt-on Turbo kit, Unichip Q with turbo module, Manual boost controller (upgradable to Electronic boost controller), TF035 turbo and bigger injectors.

Xiao Jian's Sumo turbo WRX vs Evolution 10 race results

Xiao Jian's Sumo turbo WRX vs Evolution 10 race results

Race was scheduled in the wee hours of that morning. Xiao Jian's WRX has been planned for a Dyno tune that afternoon but, we were unable to secure a slot for him that day. Owner insisted to have his ride tune, coz, there will be a 40 tiang run that evening and if his ride is not ready by then, there is no point racing.

Previously Evo group have already dragged with xiao Jian and Evo won. However, when news got around that the wrx he tried with was boosting only 1.3 bars of boost, and his new forged engine is still running-in, he asked for a re-match to determine the real winner.

Evo comes with forged internal, cams and using Motec Standalone ecu to control. Tuner is famous Rhomxxxx.

Wrx comes with forged pistons, con rods and big Sumo turbo. Boost level? 2 bars for now.

Now, Sam got not much of a choice and pressured to tune. Ok, that night, we went 40 tiang, sam and myself, dragging down that lane numerous times and a constant reminder of completing everything necessary before the race starts. A few last minute hardware adjustments and stuff and tuning it to what it should be for this race keep us on our toes.

When we're done, we wanted to just go home, head for the showers, wash down those sweaty pores and dash for the bed. But, the andrenaline rush associated with a race keep us wondering if we should be there to watch the race. Tuning this ride is no simple feat.

After having our dinner at 12:30am, we decided to go watch the race.

I didnt know we were standing with the Evo supporters. While WRX supporters were on the opposite side of the road. Sam told me natuarally....That night, it was really chilly. The breeze from the cemetary that evening was especially cold that night.

Sam was able to mingle with the Evo group with ease, since some of their rides were actually done by him also, and me standing beside him? Well,.. nobody knows me anyway... so, that doesnt matter. Lame jokes. "If WRX win uh, Sam! Your tuning long long queue liaoz... hahaha" Sam replied, " hahaha... yah lor... hahaha..."

"...(laughing) your queue so long uh, queue until next year liaoz..." in hokkien was echoing in my head throughout the entire evening. hmm... that keep me even more excited.

First Run. From the ending point, you can only hear Xiao Jian's powervalve opening. You can't hear the Evo at all. All the spectators inched forward, eager to catch a close glimpse of the action. Sam's hand were shivering from the cold breeze and the excitement. When Xiao Jian zoom past, we got a radio call from the Evo that he Missed Gear! OMG! Ok, anyway, Xiao Jian considered as win round 1.

Run 2. Run 2 started with Xiao Jian clearing top speed and working his brembo brakes to a hash stop. You could hear the tyres was like getting hell lots of stress from that kind of braking. Making a quick "U" turn, he drove over to the start point with Style. vrrroooom boom. vrooommmm boom boom. OMG, the back fires sounds cool. I thought Xiao Jian's ride should have some kind of style while driving to the starting point right? kekeke. Ok, Run 2 ended with the same senario as run 1. Fark. Evo Miss gear and didnt want to step on the gas.... Well, WRX, continued anyway,... run2 WRX won. Back fire? Yup, the Evo group asked if we tuned anti-lag into the WRX, we just shrugged our shoulder and smiled. WRX back fires with slightly harsher acceleration, we kept day-to-day driving as per stock, no back fires, we made going to starting line with back-fire... in STYLE. We tune it such that during Runs, no back firing. Swee! Hmm... Hope Xiao jian like this style.

Run 3. Every one was impatient and the Evo group even more eager to see history repeat itself. This time, Xiao Jian misses gear 2. And When he engages gear 3, Evo was 3 cars infront of him. With discipline, he pushes the car hard and clears 7800 rpm gear 3 with Evo beside him. Engages Gear 4, Xiao Jian Sumo turbo pushes the car 2 lamp posts ahead of Evo. Xiao Jian's quick gear shifting skills Engages Gear 5 flawlessly! With skills like this, his ride responded with similar effect by propelling his WRX further from the Evo by another 2 Lamp post! WRX crosses the finishing Line first! Evo group suddenly went silent! The chattering went cold and the reminder of the serenity of the surrounding cemetary came back to life. Everyone except for those standing accross the street starting screaming! Almost in disbelief, "Sam! whoo hoo!" The entire WRX supporters punching in the air, jumping around!

"Thank you. Thank you." waving sheepishly to the Evo supporters who congratulated him and waving to the WRX group.

Run 4. Evo requested a rematch. Again, WRX tore the Evo. This time, it was worse, it was as-if the confidence level had given Xiao Jian the added determination to win.

Run 5. Its went as expected, except on gear 4, you suddenly hear only the Evo exhuast for once. The WRX's exhaust went silent.... Then after 2 seconds or so, WRX's powervalve filled the whole place again. I thought for a moment. Did Xiao Jian purposely gave the Evo a chance to win? Was he too confident till gear shifts are relaxed? Or did he miss gear 4?

Xiao Jian drove off immediately after the final run to meetup with his Race team.

Evo made the "U" turn and came over to our group. His racing cams and straight through exhaust gave the Evo a very fierce idling rythem. The Evo comes with Carbon fibre bonnet, stickers, GT wing, special TD05-20G turbo and many many more. Brakes, I think is AP racing or endless. Nice Ride! Dun get me wrong. This Evo is very very fast. Its just that tonight, it wasnt his show. The looks on the driver's face was filled to the brim with dissappointment. He couldnt manage a smile. It was a mix of embarassement and disbelief. The looks that tells you he has alot of questions but, no answers.

I got a call from WRX that they are going for a celebration, and trust me. The feeling of winning is invaluable. I had my fair share of losing, but tonight, lets just celebrate while we can.

A rematch is planned immediately and the Evo will be added more hardware and getting his ride re-tuned. Xiao Jian agreed for the rematch once the Evo has completed his modifications, he will be waiting. I'm not sure if WRX is going to modify somemore.... thats tomorrow's story.

Race aside, Sam took a wrong turn while tuning with Xiao Jian's ride into the cemetary area, he immediately switch off his headlights, clapped his palms together and apologized repeatedly in a remorseful manner, we apologize for disturbing the peace, and only hope wrx supporters also enjoyed that evening as much as we did. RIP seniors...

Congratulation to Xiao Jian for doing Subaru WRX proud that evening.

Subaru wrx with vf30 turbo

Subaru wrx with vf30 turbo

Car comes with a vf-30 turbo, upgraded fuel reg, pumps and injectors and many many more. Boost at the max possible for his engine :). Tuning is via open source reflash.

Vf30 is a mid-range turbo, not too big and also not that small. It is a turbo that is good enough to pull a 220km/h without any hassle. Low end wise is still acceptable as you can still get a fair amount of boost even at lower gears. Sam in particular likes this turbo alot...kekeke... i personally prefer a bigger one since I have been using the VF-30 for a good 2~3 year liaoz...

What we did on this ride is solve the constant stalling and also prevent the car from jerking all the way during top speed runs. This ride has been previously tuned by an Australian tuner Henry followed by Garxxx R tuner Rhoxxxx. Owner approaches us because of various reasons and mainly because we were recommended to him by his kakis.

A vf-30 on a WRX will mean boost start building up at 2000 rpm and hitting max boost at 3800 rpm on gear 1! Torque wise, no doubt about it. A comparable turbo to the Vf-30 would be the Vf-28. If you have the budget, a VF-22 ball bearing turbo will give a pretty similar feeling and you can expect a much stronger high rpm power. Very much a give and take thingy.

Idling is 500~700rpm, no stalling, we also discussed this with the owner and asked if he preferred it to be at 1000 rpm. Well, car idles very quietly at low rpm and saves petrol. So, we decided to keep it 500 until maybe one day, he decides to put in a big bang kick ass muffler, we'll definately retune to idle at 1000 rpm for that kick ass boxer boom. My personal preference is low rpms and comfort kekeke...

Car now pulls hard at 3500 rpm ~4000 rpm and at 5500 rpm, the turbo starts to lose its efficiency and screams its way to 8000 rpm. Sam like it alot lor... kekeke... I keep reminding him my car also using this turbo and how come I dont feel the orgasm lor... If he likes the way the car is running, I bet the owner is also happy.

I have never met the owner before (as usual).... so, that evening, sam drove the car to the owner's house to pass him the car, and that was the first time we met. Owner is very friendly and easy going. We then demo the car to him and also show the fixes on the stalling part. He was very happy with the results. After a couple of pulls and demos, he starts to tell us how the car was like in the past.

Then after a while he sarted sharing with us an encounter with the 'unseen'. He said, not too long back, he and a couple of friends were driving up to malaysia. His ride was pulling around 180 km/h along a stretch of road where a week or 2 ago, the tour bus had a fatal accidient leaving numerous passengers dead and injured. 180 km/h in the wee hours of the night, all his passenger suddenly stopped their conversation, and braised themselves for a collision near the site of the fatal bus accident site. All except the driver who was puzzled at the sudden strange reaction of all his 3 passengers. He immediately shouted over to them and demanded and explanation for the strange sudden bazare reaction. His passengers were too shocked to say anything at that time, at that moment, he noticed a lady floating past him on his right and that caused his to swerve his vehicle to the left into a near accident. I couldnt recall if he did hit the rails during that maneuver, but it was good enough to note that after that incident, his car met 3 accidents within a month with cars hitting him from behind.

The passengers account was that they all saw the car hitting a lady. Which made all of them react in that bazare manner all except the driver. When there was no impact experienced, they continue to see the lady standing on the same position as-if the car had passed through it. The owner did notice from the rear mirror someone standing in the middle of the road and sensed something was strangely wrong.

Listening to his strange encounters send chills down my spine. Sam says if the owner told him earlier, we would have chickened out tuning his ride kekekeke.... Some would say that the owner's kind nature had prevented any mishap...

Ok, great ride, good turbo.
