Daihatsu YRV Turbo Powerup

Daihatsu YRV Turbo Powerup

Daihatsu decided that the YRV will come with a small and mighty turbo, a nicely sized intercooler to squeeze into a small chassis, a small 1.3L engine to give the bigger engines a run for their money.

What we did to this car is to re-tune the car, fix up the disturbing settings inside the emanage blue, solder up those wire and connections, fix in the proper sensors and connectors, remove custom soldering which make the piggyback unit look like what Greddy designers intended for it to look like on the drawing boards and brochures.

There was wiring problems which causes problem to the car and we checked to ensure his existing 2 wrx injectors are working. Yes yes... i know, dun need 2 wrx sub-injectors. Sam say not he install one... hahaha... Anyway, the owner paid quite a high price for these injectors installed, more ex. than Sam lor... hahaha...

On the menu, we have a free flowing exhaust system, open pod air filter, walboro fuel pumps, profec-B boost controller and many many more.

You know, the owner has been given so much wrong information by different people, so much until even what we say at times are quite meaningless. The only was to convince ourselves is to give each other a chance and show what we meant to say through action.

I too had my confidence shaken. Owner actually raced with a 1.6 Lancer GLX with racing clutch and final drive modified, no tuning and he lost. The question is whether our YRV after all the fix up can win this 1.6 lancer. Frankly, I do not doubt the previous tuner but, all I can do is to give it my best shot, put in my share of the effort and see the score.

After tuning, we boost 1.x bar at high boost and 0.8 bars at low boost. Immediately, owner arrange for a race.

He used to be running on Apexi AVCR boost controller, but was asked to use something else by the previous tuner. hmm... ok, we made good the profec-B, the best way we do.

Its a pity the Lancer wasnt able to make it lor... instead, he arranged with a modified EK4. OMG!! And the deal is that is he were to be on par with the EK, that will mean a win for YRV against the lancer.

Ok, at 40 tiang, both cars pitted. On the third horn, they sprint. Gear 1, the EK4 shoots in front like no tomorrow. Due to the racing clutch in the EK 4, I think NASA's Apollo 13 rocket also lose to the EK lor... Owner only wanted to benchmark how many car length he will lose to the EK4 before preparing for the lancer.

Owner was 3 cars behind the EK on launch. Finally, the Automatic transmission in the YRV engages the engine and propels the car forward. Once the YRV turbo engages gear 2, the high boost and engine starts to roar through the free flowing exhaust system. Short of flames coming out of the rocket pads, the YRV catches up instantly to the EK4.

Owner's YRV turbo enagages Gear 3. And was unable to pull away from the EK4, engine continues to work like fark, and waits for the engagement of gear 4. In gear 4, the YRV turbo barely inches ahead of the EK4 will 190 km/h. If only he had a bigger turbo, the YRV would have won.

Owner rests his medallion. Mix feeling swells up from within, puffing away on his Viceroy menthol. The if-only turbo was bigger feeling was frustrating but the unimaginable par on the EK4 race manages a smile on his face.

That night, there was the EG6, EG9 and ESI. The new found confidence swells greatly within. The long pent up humiliation from them and all the scorning remark from them made his racing skill that evening formidable. One by one, he slaughters the EG6, EG9 and ESI.

The ESI is the worst of the lot. Only the EK4, the YRV medallion boosted 1.x bars of boost. Which the rest of the pinions, they deserve only his low boost of 0.8 bars.

ESI lost by 1 chicken farm length! That lost humiliated the esi so much as to accuse the YRV of dropping in a bigger engine and bigger turbo. Unconvinced of the lost, esi immediately went to ST powDered that very next day to have his Hondata retuned and a rematch is underway.

None of them agreed to our instructions to race only on rolling start. The YRV turbo has great disadvantage due to the Auto transmission. I respect the owner's sporting attitude to race from stationery with all the cars that evening.

That night, the YRV turbo was reborned. We still have a few more things to touch up on. Just a little bit more to perfection. kekeke.... Sam complains he is too tired liaoz... hahaha as usual...

Congratulation to the YRV Turbo. You made Daihatsu and all of us proud!

I encouraged the owner to keep everything stock for a few months until he get bored. Coz, winning using a stock engine with all that is inside is definately the intention of Daihatsu.

Whats on the makan list for this ride...
bigger turbo
bigger intercooler (if got enough space)
forged pistons
forged conrods

verdict:
Extreme fun.

YRV turbo is tuned using Emanage Blue.
