Daihatsu YRV Turbo Powerup

Daihatsu YRV Turbo Powerup

Daihatsu decided that the YRV will come with a small and mighty turbo, a nicely sized intercooler to squeeze into a small chassis, a small 1.3L engine to give the bigger engines a run for their money.

What we did to this car is to re-tune the car, fix up the disturbing settings inside the emanage blue, solder up those wire and connections, fix in the proper sensors and connectors, remove custom soldering which make the piggyback unit look like what Greddy designers intended for it to look like on the drawing boards and brochures.

There was wiring problems which causes problem to the car and we checked to ensure his existing 2 wrx injectors are working. Yes yes... i know, dun need 2 wrx sub-injectors. Sam say not he install one... hahaha... Anyway, the owner paid quite a high price for these injectors installed, more ex. than Sam lor... hahaha...

On the menu, we have a free flowing exhaust system, open pod air filter, walboro fuel pumps, profec-B boost controller and many many more.

You know, the owner has been given so much wrong information by different people, so much until even what we say at times are quite meaningless. The only was to convince ourselves is to give each other a chance and show what we meant to say through action.

I too had my confidence shaken. Owner actually raced with a 1.6 Lancer GLX with racing clutch and final drive modified, no tuning and he lost. The question is whether our YRV after all the fix up can win this 1.6 lancer. Frankly, I do not doubt the previous tuner but, all I can do is to give it my best shot, put in my share of the effort and see the score.

After tuning, we boost 1.x bar at high boost and 0.8 bars at low boost. Immediately, owner arrange for a race.

He used to be running on Apexi AVCR boost controller, but was asked to use something else by the previous tuner. hmm... ok, we made good the profec-B, the best way we do.

Its a pity the Lancer wasnt able to make it lor... instead, he arranged with a modified EK4. OMG!! And the deal is that is he were to be on par with the EK, that will mean a win for YRV against the lancer.

Ok, at 40 tiang, both cars pitted. On the third horn, they sprint. Gear 1, the EK4 shoots in front like no tomorrow. Due to the racing clutch in the EK 4, I think NASA's Apollo 13 rocket also lose to the EK lor... Owner only wanted to benchmark how many car length he will lose to the EK4 before preparing for the lancer.

Owner was 3 cars behind the EK on launch. Finally, the Automatic transmission in the YRV engages the engine and propels the car forward. Once the YRV turbo engages gear 2, the high boost and engine starts to roar through the free flowing exhaust system. Short of flames coming out of the rocket pads, the YRV catches up instantly to the EK4.

Owner's YRV turbo enagages Gear 3. And was unable to pull away from the EK4, engine continues to work like fark, and waits for the engagement of gear 4. In gear 4, the YRV turbo barely inches ahead of the EK4 will 190 km/h. If only he had a bigger turbo, the YRV would have won.

Owner rests his medallion. Mix feeling swells up from within, puffing away on his Viceroy menthol. The if-only turbo was bigger feeling was frustrating but the unimaginable par on the EK4 race manages a smile on his face.

That night, there was the EG6, EG9 and ESI. The new found confidence swells greatly within. The long pent up humiliation from them and all the scorning remark from them made his racing skill that evening formidable. One by one, he slaughters the EG6, EG9 and ESI.

The ESI is the worst of the lot. Only the EK4, the YRV medallion boosted 1.x bars of boost. Which the rest of the pinions, they deserve only his low boost of 0.8 bars.

ESI lost by 1 chicken farm length! That lost humiliated the esi so much as to accuse the YRV of dropping in a bigger engine and bigger turbo. Unconvinced of the lost, esi immediately went to ST powDered that very next day to have his Hondata retuned and a rematch is underway.

None of them agreed to our instructions to race only on rolling start. The YRV turbo has great disadvantage due to the Auto transmission. I respect the owner's sporting attitude to race from stationery with all the cars that evening.

That night, the YRV turbo was reborned. We still have a few more things to touch up on. Just a little bit more to perfection. kekeke.... Sam complains he is too tired liaoz... hahaha as usual...

Congratulation to the YRV Turbo. You made Daihatsu and all of us proud!

I encouraged the owner to keep everything stock for a few months until he get bored. Coz, winning using a stock engine with all that is inside is definately the intention of Daihatsu.

Whats on the makan list for this ride...
bigger turbo
bigger intercooler (if got enough space)
forged pistons
forged conrods

verdict:
Extreme fun.

YRV turbo is tuned using Emanage Blue.

Alan's Subaru WRX 2.5L PowerUp TD05-20G

Alan's Subaru WRX 2.5L PowerUp TD05-20G

The past setup is perfect for 20 tiang races, running a VF28 powerplant on stock internal have brought much glory and wins for the owner. Now, the lack of top end power has been bugging the owner for a long time and the desire to run 30 tiangs itch has caught up and convincing enought to go for a 30 tiang turbo. We dropped in a TD05-20G, a similar turbo as the new Lancer Evo 10.

A scheduled race has been setup and the need to setup the car in time for that race get our hands and hearts pumping.

The TD05-20G in a wrx has to be carefully crafted, the diameters of the piping and core size of the new front mount intercooler is very important, modification has also been made to the bumper areas to ensure air gushes through the intercooler and not around it.

Car has been setup with twin plate carbon racing clutch, fmic, td05-20G turbo, big injectors, and tuned using ecu reflash method. Full boost at 3500 rpm!

Here goes, on the first run with the Evo 10, both cars launched great. Our rex owner is very skilled in this lor... he is one of the better driver around, skill wise, I must admit, he can make a 300 horsepower ride perform like a 380 bhp ride. No doubt about that. Gear shifts is quick and exact, accurate shift points to ensure maximum horsepower is churn from the motor.

On launch, our rex is in front. Gear 1, 2, 3, 4.... on 4, we are already 1 chicken farm length away from Evo 10. Hahaha. Kudos to Alan!!hahaha!!

Ok, now, Evo driver is a young chap, he say his gearbox la, this la that la... then rematch lor.... Ok round 2....

On the 3 horn, both car will sprint forward as usual. But this time, on the second horn, the Evo launches leaving the rex waiting for the 3rd horn... oi yoh... remember inidial D? The dimbo kallang kabot one lor... second horn choing hahaha... anyway. Its really funny for Evo to do this kind of this lor... lucky got video to show hahaha. Our rex lost this round by 1 car length. And Evo cannot pull away.

Lets take a closer look at the Evolution 10. You have a Mivec twin cams anti lag system inbuilt in that motor. You have excellent traction control, you have a very very short extractor to ensure the turbo have almost no lag as compared to rex. This Evo10 comes with modified high lift cams, boosted up to 2 bars and tuned by XXX.

Hardware, i must admit the rex loses by far to the Evo10's hardware. But, driver's skill plays the most important difference in this race.

With a stock wrx internals, our rex in the hands of a potent driver can certainly do us proud.

Next on the makan list, our rex is looking to rebuild his engine to go 1.9bar from his existing low boost setup.... Yes. He won the evo 10 on low boost. Driver skill makes up the loses in bhp... kekekeke... Kudos!

Subaru Forester 2.5 Turbo (2008 Model)

Subaru Forester 2.5 Turbo

Nowadays, everything also like going to go bankrupt. Things we normally dun think twice about buying, now, think and think until the white hair come out then buy.

No choice la, so, what does car enthus. do to keep their passion of modifying car alive? Modifying it on a budget. This post, I write on how to cheaply modify a stock forester and make it feel much more livelier and free up that stuck stock exhaust for a really low budget.

The 2.5 frosty boasts a huge chasis with a wide sun roof. Very nice interiors, very very smooth engine, very comfy interior, it gives the passengers they are sitting in a lexus or something. Powerwise, no doubt. With AVCS cams controls, a 2.5L powerplant and excellent AWD handling. Subaru sure knows how to pamper their fans. Power delivery is flawless. We're going to work a tight budget, and demo how to make this even better, the objective is to fully utilise the exising hardware.

The most basic modification starts from the intake. Well, since we're on a tight budget, fark it. Keep the stock airbox. Anyway, forester is a part-time family car, so no point making sound like a lorry all the time, so, we leave the farking air box alone this time, and allow the car to smell through a rubber box on stock filter element. This also helps to retain the part-time family car comfort level good.

Then we look at the exhaust. Fark the extractors and muffler also. Thats staying too. mid-pipe? down pipe? up pipe ? Stay! So far, nothing spent yet. Good. What we do to the exhaust is a simple de-cat. Inspection? Pass, no doubt. Sam say "money back garuantee". What we want to do here is to free up the gas flow at the asshole a little. Coz, we dun want no tissue paper stuck up those holes and worse, melting down during those tracking days. Ok, De-cat it. How much? Let budget a 180 agar-agar la... Ok, so we decatted the exhaust.

Then we wanna put in a boost controller la, simple simple, the stock forester will hit a 0.8 bar of boost at around 3000 rpm and then boost will start to fall to 0.7 bars as you reach 5000 rpm. This aint gonna work brudder... so, what we need to do here is to add in a boost controller and bring up the boost to about 1.2 bars. How much for that thing? I think about 70 bucks... agar agar. Manual boost controller of course. Cheap cheap... and can use again when economic turn better, then just turn up the knob to increase the boost level. Thats next time... kekeke... also can lower if you find the FC damn killer when the fuel price go up again... so, I'm gonna spend a 70 buck to give myself an option to adjust the boost level. I know some people rather use the stock boost solenoid to control. But, in that case, your tuner will be knn bo-eng lor... everytime just flash in the new boost level... knn... siao man... so, for me, in the morning, just pop that boonet, and tweak tweak a bit here and there can liaoz... kekekek... no need computer also can do.

Ok, shopping cart shows 250 bucks.

Next, we want to do a basic reflash to remove the cel light that comes with the decat, then remove the rev cut so that the boxer engine can scream and scream like no tomorrow and then remap the ecu to allow higher boost, remove the boost cut also, then make sure no speed cut for that NSHW run kekeke... How much? let say 200 bucks to do this flashing.

Net is 450. Good. maybe labour charges is 50 bucks? Then put in 30 buck buffer,... so we net net 530 bucks everything in.

For 530 bucks, the stock forester now boost 1.2 bars at 3000 rpm and scream all the way to 8000 rpm. Car got the head slamming effect because of the greatly increased torque from that de-cat. Overall, this car feels very light on the throttle and for the amount of money spent, this kind of effect is damn good already. Basic basic tuning... nothing too drastic. The objective is to safely max out whatever hardware we have.

To bring this budget plan futher, we take installment plan of 36 months. So, we have 530 plus 5% divided by 36 months. = 15.4583 / mth

$15.46 per mth kekeke.... omg... cartel sirlion steak already 18++ liaoz...hahahahaha, So, cut down on that monthly family lunch, you dun eat steak liaoz... just eat cartel free Roti... kekekeke... with that extra savings, you can enjoy everyday an extra 20~30% more bhp ... wait, once i get the dyno chart from dyno machine.... i tell you how much bhp gained. Yah yah, i got g-tech pro version etc etc... wait... chasis dyno more accurate... i post post the findings... kekeke

Fellow car enthus... i present to you a $16 buck budget modification that will definately make you smile and laugh till you drop. Can still mod car during bad time? Yes. why not... hahahaha...

Verdict:
Strictly to fully utilise the existing hardware safely.

Of course, if you ask me, the potential on this ride is tremendous. You can upgrade the top mount intercooler to go for a front mount intercooler. This will help reduce the charged air temp from the turbo, then go for a powervalve or a HKS muffler or Fuji exhaust. Then, opt for a electronic boost controller and drop in a VF37 twin scroll turbo while you're at it. Then, enlarge the injectors to run 1000cc injectors, with walboro pumps, and sard fuel regulator. Then you wanna upgrade the fuel rails also, and those spark plugs, we can go for a colder plugs. Ai yoh... there i go again... kekekeke...

ps: Coming soon... MX-5 intercooler upgrades and used 2.5L wrx engine for sale or rebuilt

EVO 9 MR detuned

EVO 9 MR detuned

Yah initally, I tuned this ride. To cook this 450 whp dish, you need a darn good engineer to rub the engine in a horizontal motion at a constant rate, as the rubbing reach some amount of consistency, you need to increase the rate of motion and also increase the pressure on the engine. rub rub rub rub... yah... then as you rub, you wanna touch the bearings, the oil caps and all other round roly-poly things stuck to the engine. You listen to the breathing of the engine, the panting of the turbo then, As you rub harder and harder, the pressure and the heat generated will give the bloody engineer some sort of inspiration, yeah... then during this climatic timing, you decide to put in those important theories and hard found knowledge on cars into play...

the result is orgasm.

Like our sticky workshop friend says, its not how many girls you fark, its how many quality fark you have. Some how this farking theory works for us... hahaha

Just because someone has tuned more evos than me doesnt warrant me a class below my grade. In the world of passion, nothing is more insulting than a comparision of one against another of an inferior rank.

Well, like the owner said, if people can do it, why can't us, well, sometimes, time is all that is required. A little more time, just a day or 2 more, and that idling of 1000 rpm can be achieve.

Well, we have evo 9 running on higher lift than his, and that idling at 1000 didnt seem to be running smoother than the 800 rpm idling? Does this mean my tuning sucks? hmm...

Well, the theory is simple. During idling, the job of the idle valve stepper motor is it regulates the amount of air 'leaking' into the chambers for explosion. His duty is to maintain the engine speed at 800 rpm constant and preventing the engine from stalling, this is the basics of fuel injection system. The rough idling is a result of the cams profile or valves overlapping and the solution is to change from high lift to normal cams or something else which i wouldnt say ... to get that stock factory idling back (<-- sams's job... not mine!). Increasing the ignition timing does help to smoothen the idling a little, but like all old birds say, this effect has lesser effect than that of the hardware itself, cb sam like to show off his hardware knowlege to people after installing this and that, he describes his job better than squeezing women's breasts. The ignition timing increase will 'float' the sine curve a little and with a more complete combustion, the amount of 'torque drop' per combustion is lesser. I seldom talk about theories in tuning, coz, there is little or no need to prove.

Well, its really simple. Like sam rubbing engine... its the engineer's brains in hardware that delivers the results, tuning is to make that hardware work as per expectation. High lift cams? All farkers know that idling will not be factory quality mah, people raise the idling because the farking car keeps stalling and moving off traffic is a pain in the arse. So, if the tuner can make it work at 800 rpm, like those ang mo kao tuner, why increase it? tio boh?

Simple right? No rocket science involved.

Anyway... I loaded the stock maps back into the evo 9 I tuned, coz, sam says so... Well, owner is going to DKZ to have it retuned. My first reaction was "CB! car runs so smooth, 3500 rpm full boost 2 bars, no hesitation, no bogs, no engine stalling, why should I detune it?"

sam-"Just listen to me... put it back for him"

"CB! mai leh... where got this kind of lan jiao dai jee one?"

sam-"Just let him go, people say other people can do it, why you cannot?"

"**slap head** okok, boss say, I do!"

After I loaded the maps back, I was feeling farked. Its never for the money... I do not for heaven sake discuss money with sam one... The feelings sucks mega... anyway... like all games, sometimes its like that one... owner then asked me if the engine's gonna blow running on the stock maps (** reaching into pocket and squeezing the left ball**)... I was like "what the fark...!"

Ok, owner has driven 1 day on my tuning... his friends have sat in it before and yes, car runs very very smoothly with full boost of 2 bars at 3500 rpm. Turbo is bigger than Green turbo. but thats history! Yah la yah la... turbo very good la... new ang moh turbo mah...

Now, we received a phone call from someone who knows the owner... kekeke... car now runs like a frog lor... kekekeke...

before you dive into the swimming pool, you bend down first then jump... you gotta show mother nature your big hairy balls and you've got the goods before you dive brudder... hahaha shiok shoik lor...hahaha

Car dive before surging forward. I like... :) muahahahaha

Eh, DIIIiiiiiiveeee... then goooo.... diiiiivveeee then goooo....

maybe some people like to poke a different type of hole lor... but, this is poking the nose liaoz brudder... hahahahaha poke the nose then poke the ears... hahahaha... tak shiok la brudder.... poke the nose leh... hahaha... quantity nose fark ... wah hahahaha !! OOhhhhh... my ears ... my ears... hahaha... pak pak pak... ooohhh....

Verdict:
Yes, Sam clapped his hands when he heard the news.... Me? hohoho.... I laughed so bad, oh, my god... truely, from the bottom of my lam pah jee, tuning is fun.

You wanna know what it was like before...--> Evo 9 MR tuned
ok... serioudly, at least he tried my tuning before... it just that probably, we're not destined to work together thats all... no hard feelings...

Me and sam now arguing how to make a frog out of the evo 9... maybe, we can side bet then try it out on some in future... muahahaha... just kidding...

have a good laugh, shrug it off your shoulder, have a nice weekend ahead... cheers!!

more to come

I still have some old stories coming up:

Suzuki swift sport turbo charged on methanol
Honda stream turbo charged switching from Microtech ecu to run on emanage ultimate

and RX8 supercharged fine tuning

Subaru WRX 2.5L for 600 bhp

Subaru WRX 2.5L for 600 bhp

Eh, this turbo is super duper turbo lor... sillypore not many. I take this chance to pay my respects to WL, he has the winner ride everyone wants. Ah joe and WL departure has affected alot of us and their rides is an example of fine workmanship, it is a pity that good racers do leave us.

WL's ride runs on this super duper turbo and on 40 tiang... my red wrx only manage to keep a close distance on the initial 2 gears, on the 3rd gear, WL is already 2 lamp post in front. On 4th gear, 3 lamp post in front. The exhaust was roaring through the 3" straight through exhaust system down the alley.

Before the second drag, WL's front diffuser gave way. Sam fix it up on the spot... our dear 7777 was there also that night. Witnessing this race is definately an eye-opener. Deep down I wanted to raise another good ride to win WL's ride. When I heard of his departure, my heart dropped.

WL owns the ride that wins. Kudos.

Ok, to breed another ride like that is not easy. Alot of kungfu is required lor.

When Siao jian's ride was fully tuned to 1.9 bars of boost, something gave way... the wastegate refused to open! cbb lor... 7777 owner was in the car when that happened. knn, just 1 pull at 4000 rpm and suddenly, boooom! A series of white smoke came puffing out from the exhaust... knn, somemore can make o-rings lor... the feeling is damn shitty lor.

This engine to build 500+ bhp, we just put in a forged pistons and conrods lor... then already finished tuning 1.9 bar of boost then this sort of things happen...

As a tuner, this is something very very disheartening, standing beside a injured car is something everyone dreads. When things like this happens, the standard procedure in investigating the cause starts.

You can determine whether is the tuner's fault or not based on this investigation. The very reason for not pushing cars past their limits is to avoid situation like this lor.

But, like all things, shit does happen.

This investigation is very well established as I write, since so many incidents have happened in the past to so many people, the procedures and protocols are well adopted by all workshops as fair and non-bias.

Ok, pistons and conrods reveal no pingings, no lean or over fueling. The sleeves of this engine broke. The pressure from the turbo is so high, it generated so much pressure, enough to split the engine chambers. Blowing an engine with perfectly tuned maps... hmm... they say I good... I fark them lor... hahaha... feeling suxs...

Building a 600 bhp car is no simpe feat. No one says its easy. And wastegate jamming on us is definately a lousy thing to happen.

Ok, this ride now comes with forged sleeves, my maps interpolated for 2.4 bars of boost. This valuable experience of 2.4 bars of boost comes from another ride with forged sleeves, cams, conrods, pistons, valves springs and retainers. Having tune a 2.4 bars of boost, I know what is required for siao jian's ride.

sam's still working on this ride and I certainly look forward to seeing this ride in action. Once this ride races, I'll definately post up some video clips here... kekekeke...

once again, this ride comes with so much installed, I'll leave the details to the next time I tune this ride.

Honda Euro R with methanol

Honda Euro R with methanol

Ok, we all know playing NA is damn expensive lor... if mola is not a concern, then water-methanol injection kit on NA will generate an additional 20~30 whp. Not much I know, as compared to turbo charging, the amount of bhp gain is definately not worth the effort.

However, in garmen opinion, they prefer playing NA lor... anyway, 20~30 whp is on the safe side la... I don't think I should push it to the very limits of the engine la, later even friends also cannot be then jia lat already.

Usually, in tuning, I prefer to do the car as-if its my own, its a need to get the most out of the current setup and imagine how I would like the car to be. Driving a ridiculously modified car is nothing new to me, I still enjoy every bit of it and I definately know how it is like to own a lemon. hahaha... if the car stalls every morning, or stalls while you drive down the multi-storey carpark every morning, that frustrates me totally.

I would keep one map for day-to-day driving, another for drag, and another for track. They are all different lor... hahaha... Not very very different, they are similar but the difference can be felt. At least by me.

There are times when times didnt turn out as expected, no doubt, like in every game, there are days when you win and days you don't. Maybe one day, I can be like michael shoe-maker, win and win like nobody business hahaha... even so, its still his passion in racing.

ok, though the number of lost race is damn few, those are the car that stayed in my memory all the time. I think its human la, my humble apologies to those... we tend to remember the lows more than the ups... With a blog site, it will be easy to track everything i guess ...

OK ok... fark the moody feeling, this Honda euro R is a damn luxury ride to own. Posh posh looking, lots of room space, and guess what,... honda race tuned this ride stock from the factory! :)

Verdict:
This kit is seriously meant for streching the limits with the stock setup. It would be better to TC this ride for the eye-opening wow effect.

Subaru TS 1.5L Turbo Powerup

Subaru TS 1.5L Turbo Powerup

Yes, you can refer to the previous post here on the initial setup

Then, owner installs water-methanol injection kit, plus powervalve!

Now, this automatic transmission car has a powerpacked mid to high range powerband. You can just imagine, when you gun the car on traffic sprints, you'll noticed that the car sucks mega on 0~2500 rpm. The culprit is the automatic transmission. The inability to launch this ride will push this car out of the drag category automatically.

In drag, gear 1 can determine whether you win or lose. Those owners with dual mappings in their ride will concur with me. Those tuned on drag will find themselves very far in front on launch! Launch control is a fantastic device to have, but, this comes at the expense of the turbo, gears, clutch and engine. Manually launching the car demands more skill from the driver and properly launching the car is the only way to ensure the system remain intact for a long time.

Ok, fark drag... on 3000 rpm, this TS simply pulls like crazy... with the powervalve open, knn, those beside surely kenna shocked one lor... hahaha

methanol is a devilish liquid that transform your normal 98 octance fuel into race fuel. The water component then increases the chamber compression and the latent heat capacity of water displaces alot of heat from the engine chambers. This liquid wil squirted into the engine can enhance the spool up of turbo and also churns out alot of torque from the engine.

So, thats what we did, turbo charged TS with water-methanol and powervalve. The results? hahaha... just remember, give subaru the credit for putting AVCS into this new TS... on Dyno, we clocked 220 bhp! Torque wise is only 30kg. Everyone's smiling and this ride drew the eyes of many workshops that witnessed this feat.

We're very honoured to be the first in sillypore to turbo charged this TS and now even so to run on water-methanol and powervalve. We were also the first monkeys to turbo charge the new Mitsubishi 1.5L lancer.

Many thanks to the proud owner of this ride for letting us have fun on this ride. Owner is our old time customer liaoz... his choice to scrap his old lancer to buy this 1.5L TS is definately well founded. Initially, we thought he was crazy lor... sell off a very good lancer glx turbo and buying a 1.5L TS.... hahahaha... now we know... :)

Very smooth car. Not as torquey as the usual, excellent on streets. You will enjoy the AVCS and coil on plug ignition... Oh, all these controlled using emanage Ultimate.

Verdict:
No doubt, if you do it right, you'll get to enjoy it. 220 bhp with smooth delivery of power throughout the rpms. Automatic transmission for the lazy bumps... hahaha

Subaru WRX with VF22 turbo

Subaru WRX with VF22 turbo

Yes, 2 months back also... kekeke...

This ride is recommended to us by another reputable workshop, in the good old days, they specialise in RX-7 or any kind of rotary engines, they are experts in repairing rotary engines, no doubt about that, they still do the same darn good job till date. Their car setup is a little different from us, and, kudos to them, they can do a damn good job too. You can learn a little or 2 from these people and push your own tech forward.

Owner maintains his car at this workshop and which tuning is done by us, he wanna switch from microtech standalone to use standard ecu with reflash. The main reason for this switch is to allow the car to have better fuel economy thats all.

Little did he know that the car ended up with a very strong spool up and high end horse power. We highlighted to him that the current setup is unable to hold the boost at high rpms and requested to have it fixed and come back for re-tuning. Yes, he did come back of course...

ok, VF22 is a very good all rounder turbo, it give very early spool ups and a strong high end powerband. This ride runs mainly on stock internals and stock injectors which we also expressed some concerns in building high boost with this setup. Running the injectors to its max duration is definately not the correct way to tune the ride, so, we settled for less in the end. Until the necessary equipment is installed, we cannot build the kind of horsepower we need.

Usually when sam fixes up a car, he simply aims for a targeted horsepower and do all the necessary to achieve it. Basically, on this turbo, we can generate 350 whp easily on a 2L engine. Whats installed, turbo inlet, vf22, boost controller, and all controlled using openecu reflash... yes, I know, not enough to generate that target bhp. But, owner is happy lor... He is contented with this setup and the tuning. Coz, last time, 1 tank can only run 200 km, now, he confidently boast a FC of 500++ km.

Idling is stable at 800 rpm. No stalling and no cel lights.

There is still alot of potential on this ride and I am definately looking forward to tuning this ride to it maximum potential. Of course, there is no hurry in this la... this kind of play play things can wait one la...

Verdict:
To cook this vf22 dish, you need injectors of minimum 800 cc, preferably a wastegate or something and maybe you wanna upgrade that top mount intercooler to run front mount instead. Then, you upgrade the fuel and ignition system to stablize the entire setup... I think there are a little bit more stuff to add, that, I'll leave it to sam to tok cock over tea... hahaha...

Mazda MX-5 Miata

Mazda MX-5 Miata

2 months back, I got the opportunity to work on a very very rare Mx-5 miata. This ride comes stock turbo-charged. What I need to do is boost it up a little and then tune the ride, at the same time, remove the rev limiter.

Owner is a doctor brudder... I tell you la, you go and see doctor, they use those ET ears and stick on your neh neh... then they poke thermometers into your mouth to measure the temperature... These smarties are truely a different breed of people... everytime I look myself in the mirror, I still think I can be an astronut, but, cb lah... if my dick longer by 1 inch, I can at least be president of sillypore...

anyway, locktors are damn sensitive and very very detailed lor... I think those see pimples one even more particular lor... see pimples leh... wah lao, whats there to see? but, they must tell you very detail report on that pimple also lor...

So, I tune a doctors car... YEAH!! everyone, raise your arms in the air and shake those armpit hair!! woo hoo... boom boom boom... kekeke :)

Eh, fark u understand, every little pimple on my tuning also kenna bang balls lor... sam, you cb, next time can recommend more construction workers? especially those from the IR one...

to be fair, the owner is very forgiving liaoz... he has a very kind heart and his knowledge on cars can beat any ah-de-ah-kao hands down. I left my maps unlocked on this ride. This is the only ride I left my tuning unlocked... so, please don't go download and spread... those are my special methods in tuning... yah. I say special means special hahahaha

owner shares the theory on oil pressure to measure the suitabilty of oil vicosity on different rides. You see, after I tok to loktor long enough, I also become complicated liaoz... hahaha

Ok, tuning this ride is truely a challenge. Removing rev-cut takes half my brain cells... the other half is to solve the frequent bogs in the car... So, to cook this dish properly, tweaking the temperature sensors is required. Cannot tell you how though, coz, sam reads my blog site too... then spark plugs also must tweak a little here and there... then lamdba sensor there also must touch touch a little.

The mappings with and without temperature sensor tweaking is totally different lor. To begin with, I think in my opinion, the base map got a little bit of problem la... the close loop setting is a little too lean during spool ups and can cause the car to have some problem. The other pesky problem is after idling for some time, the cel light will illuminate by itself, and the solution to this is in the ignition systems. Cel code says its ignition or coil circuit malfunction. Cel seems to point to wiring of the emanage Ultimate.

Anyway, solve already, sam is damn smart lor... tiu.

Ok, on this ride, car pulls very strong on spool ups, 3000~3500 rpms will be the best region to feel the effects of a mid ranged turbo. Overall, I think this ride is fabulous. Its got the looks, the feel and the power of a sports car. Everything you see on this doc's car comes with a wealth of knowledge and lots of research. What I know is nothing comparable, so, it is good to reveal my humble tuning methods to people like that. They take and enhance their knowledge further... again tuning to me is really for fun but, I do respect the rice bowls of other professional tuner around, so, charges wise, please go to sam :)

Now, doc's car runs on olins suspensions... he told me some 5kg of something something, hiaz... me tuning boleh boleh... other thing cannot la... no choice. lam pah also big and small, what to do...

Like all cars after turbo charging. Please try not to boost during warm-up phase... and also give the car some cooling down time for the turbo to wind down... this is ah pek's old theory for engine's longevity, so, please take note...

anyway... this ride is already out of production liaoz... verdict?

Verdict:
hahaha... damn good. Exotic ride. Limited edition, sillypore only have 2 of this model. In the world, less than 5000 produced.

Toyota Vios Turbo charged

Toyota Vios Turbo charged

Yes, one more... this one slightly different. Initially, sam thought this car only needs some fine tuning, then ended up fixing up some rusty old turbo...

Car was done up in truely asia, car came with a old old turbo, like grandma trying to run marathon and running out of breath too early, then saw the wires are totally trashed. hahaha... Even the previous mechanic also end up not picking the phone... hahaha ok ok, fark the past. Here's what we did, replace the turbo with a working one, clean up the wirings, fix up the emanage blue settings, fix up the normal driving.

The car now runs clean with much lesser fuel during day-to-day driving, the crusing boast extremely good fuel consumption, which in-turn will pay itself overtime for the money spent fixing. Fuel economy can be up to 50% improvement. Its like you spent maybe 1000 bucks, then every month petrol say 900 bucks, you will save 450 bucks per month. Over 2 months, all the petrol money saved can pay off the initial bill itself.

Power wise, hahaha, now boosting at the current setup's limits. 0~100 should be in the 7seconds region while good high end turbo power. Turbo spools up very strongly at 3000 rpm, full boost at 3500 rpm. Vios is famed for it light chasis of 950 kg, VVTi technology, and its FWD, this 3 factors itself will give the stock ride a 0~100 in 9.5 secs. With the turbo installed, this ride not only shaves off 2 seconds off the century sprint, it also transforms this ride into a quarter mile car. The 0~160 is impressive and would give a similar performance as that of a stock wrx. Hitting 200 km/h on a turbo charged vios is easy. Its now left to the driver's discipline and skill to control the new found power.

Fixing up this ride is challenging. As compared to a stock condition vios, this ride arrives as a puzzle. We didnt know what happened in the past and what was causing the car to flood with fuel even in normal driving. The frustrating frequent stalling and sluggish boosts can only be compared to a abnormal NA car. And to be able to diagnose this ride accurately and fix it up in 4 to 5 days, I would give myself a pat on the back.hahaha :)

As the owner of this ride, I would feel a good sense of satisfaction. In car modification, it not always doing it right the first time, it sometimes means getting a car that sucks mega big time, and fixing it to what he thinks it should be. Research and reading up will give you a head start on what needs to be done. Some of the things we fix up is the close-loop tuning, bov, turbo, boost controller, ignition system etc... :), We fix up the idling to be stable at 600 rpm, also fix up those back-firing and stallings... and many many more la...

The first tuning is to clear those carbon buildup in the exhaust system :) we were like optopus on the loose lor... hahaha, looking at the rear mirror and seeing cars siam you is damn funny lor... next time should install camera to capture those moments hahahaha...

Some big achievements on this ride would be the improvement of FC by 50%, increasing the horsepower by 40++ bhp, increasing the longevity of the engine.

Shiok la, you take something shitty and turn it to something golden, now sitting on a proper stage 3 setup. No more optopus...

Whats next? Practise and more practise, possible to the tracks to polish up those corners...

This ride comes with boost controller, front mount intercooler, big injectors, wrx turbo, open pod filter and all controlled using greddy emanage blue. Engine is stock 1.6L 1NZ-Fe.

Verdict:
This ride is slightly different from the norm, you basically send in an optopus and turn it into gonzilla. hahaha... good la.

Evo 9 MR

Evolution 9 MR

Yes, this is a fabulous ride, this ride has a new and rare turbo, able to generate 450 ++ whp, high lift cams, 1000cc injectors, staging fuel pumps, fuel regulator and controlled using openecu

What we did was simple, make the car spool up at 2500 rpm and let it hit 2 bars at 3500 rpm. With the high lift cams and mivec, 9000 rpm should be an issue.

Thats all that we did, no knock registered and basically, I think this is simply fabulous. Idling is stable at 800 rpm no stalling, but, this particular version of openecu doesnt provide the maps for evo 9 MR idling control. If we are going to raise to 1000 rpm, the evo 9 MR would be an issue, other model seems to work fine.

anyway... thats history.

Mitsubishi Lancer Ex 1.5L Turbo Charged

Mitsubishi Lancer Ex 1.5L Turbo Charged

Yah, I know, I havent updated the blog for donkey years liaoz... so many cars done up but never update .... hahaha... from no time to lazy haha...

This ride comes with a 1.5L powerplant, can bus protocol for its ecu, automatic transmission, drive-by-wire throttle body and, overall feeling of this ride is nice. Car feels very comfortable and the interior is definately appealing and in tuned with whats new in the market.

Mitsubishi uses most of the latest japanese technology available like twin cams mivec and an arsenal of sensors to control this car.

Whats we felt lacking in this sporty looking ride is horsepower. We already know that modifying NA cars won't get anywhere near what we wanted and we chose a turbo charger to allow positive displacement to push this ride to a new level.

To cook this 170 bhp dish, we put in a TD04 turbo from a wrx, turbo blow-off-valve, HKS open pod filter, silicon pipings, high grade stainless steel pipings, cast extractor, boost controller and control all these with emanage ultimate. Putting the ingredients together is easy since the turbo kits is a direct bolt-on type.

For deserts, we can serve a Apexi turbo timer, high flow exhaust system, ATF cooler and maybe a bottle of alchohol from boost cooler water-methanol injection system to enjoy the most out of this ride.

As usual, deserts will be served later after the main course... kekeke...

We initially wanted to use emanage blue, but, initial investigations tells us that among our list of piggyback ECUs, only the emanage ultimate can control this car which runs on can-bus protocol. This initial investigation is conducted before we start the actual work for obvious reasons.

We have chosen this ecu among other piggybacks like destek unichip, EMS, AEM, SAFC, emanage blue, SMT-6 and haltech intercepter. All of which we have hands-on experience and we chose Ultimate with understanding of what is required to properly tune this ride to expectations.

I tell you, this ride is so farking sensitive, the moment it senses something is not right, it cuts off the control to the throttle body, and you will realise that stepping on the accelerator have no effect at all. You basically limp on gear 1 10~15 km/h to the nearest safe roadside.

There are a few things that will trigger this kind of reaction and putting a turbo into this ride is definately one of them.

So, day 1 tuning ended at 4am and day 2 tuning completed at 10 pm. Well, we took so long because the number of sensors inside this car is amazing lor. Mitsu really maximize the 500k bps stock ecu lor, and luckily, lim pek also quite up-to-date one. I have the latest diagnostic tools in the market to tackle this baby... hahaha, its like dat one, you have anti-virus and stuff but, still got people still can hack and break codes hahaha... what to do, LPPL one lah... just suck it up.

Turbo kicks in early at 2500 rpm and full boost at 3500 rpm. The car basically feels very very light as a result of this early spool up and because of the characteristics of this TD-04 turbo, at 3500 rpm onwards, the powerband is damn shiok. At 4500, you have the mivec effect kicking in and continues to pull the car all the way to redline.

Day-to-day drive is as per normal, you can expect much more horsepower in overtaking conditions and of course, when you floor the acclerator, hell breaks loose!

The main difference between the 1.6L turbo and 1.5L turbo besides the capacity, would be the mivec system. In the 1.6L, you will realise that high end power is some what lacking a little (without high-lift cams), and mitsubishi employs the help of the mivec cams to assist in the powerband of the mid to high. To our delight of course.

Tuning this reminds me of the colt plus turbo which runs on can-bus protocol. Essentially, alot of this lancer ex's technology is coming from its predeccesors like the new subaru TS taking the AVCS from the STi. Challenging of course and if we manage to get this up and running and up to everyone's expectations, hahaha... shiok. Boost wise? definately not 0.5 bars. None of our cars are tuned so low... hahahaha....

The stock 1.5L did remind me alot of stock subaru TS.

Overall, this ride is definately in-tuned with the latest in car fashion.

Verdict:
Cheapest option to move out of the underpowered category. We just sent this ride for dyno and the earlier recipie for 170 bhp is now changed to 200 bhp dish. The Mivec technology should have been in the lancer earlier la... hahaha

side-track :
Lately, we tuned a Honda ESI... knn, that farking ride is so scary, all my leg hair stood up when the car's turbo spooled... the car snaked as the car pulls.... boost? 1.4 bars.

Classic workshop tech joke

We got some siao track car owners, I think got no life one la, half the time you find them on sepang, while the other half you see them attacking corners at pasir gudang. The track also never offend them before but, alot of people like to vandalise the wall and worse still, take their cars and piang the CB walls in Gudang.

I was thinking of these track car I've tuned and one of them is our dear red Vios with one of a kind suspension system. Of course la, with the amount of time and effort spent tuning the suspension system on this car, if you still don't get it right, you can squat on the parapet wall of Blk 123 potong pasir ave, put 2 hand together and leap off the building.

This vios owner have been practising on this car for a long time and since the engine, torque and powerband is still the same, he is consistently trying his consistent ride and improving on his skills and timings on track. CB, if I give you a car that breaksdown half the time, and 90% of the time, you're in-out workshop, I bet your skills will be stagnant.

Most of our race junkies like Alan keeps on practising on that "x" kg of torque and "y" bhp at "z" rpm for weeks and you bet their skills and confidence will increase over time. During which nothing in the engine and turbo kit is modified and should deliver a reliable and constant performance. With practise, you see our racers winning.

Eh, there was once, I was tuing car, got 1 cb who kept following us for tuning. Fark, this brudder's head is damn big. Really damn big lor... and he put it beside my head while tuning and staring at me laptop. OMG! There was once I got a shock when I turn my head and see him next to me... Imagine a big head sitting at the back seat sticks his big head next to yours while you tune the car.... CB, I told him please... stop sticking head beside me... damn irritating.

He didnt listen.... Hiaz.

Ok, we know one fella who took a GT28 size turbo and ask dear sam to put it into his vios. After we finished laughing at the joke, we realised he was serious. Eh, where got people so stubborn one... cb, tell you cannot still dun listen, and insist sam do it, customer big fark... hahaha... cannot!!

"Eh, Sam, I buy this dog(turbo) hor, can help me teach him to Mieow ?"

sam: "HAHAHA!! CB, you damn funny lor....hahahaha"

"Eh, Sam, I am serious... I want this dog to mieow"

sam: "Huh? hahahaha.... ok, you fark off one corner and fark the spider on the wall. I not going to teach your dog to mieow."

How can use soooo big turbo one??

dissapointed owner went to MK grazing... I think they are famous for this...

"Eh, big-head, I buy this dog, can help teach him to Mieow??"

big-head: "Hmmm.... can. But, I have this dog, it is bigger and better than your dog."

"Really?" **got hope liaoz **

big-head: "Yah! Of course! and I can teach this dog to Mieow Mieow damn farking loud. Louder than sam's powervalve. muahahaha"

"You steady la. I went to sam's workshop, they say cannot, not after laughing their ass off. The tuner also CB one... say I go fark spider on the wall..."

After weeks of modifying the car, it ended up running 0.8 bars of boost, full boost at 5000 rpm, with forged piston, forged conrod, and its slower than most cars on the road, kenna tear up by my 0.6 bars vios on track. Go 40 tiang lose big time. My vios fren asked him to look for better option....

After weeks of trying to teach the dog to mieow, the dog died. Dog don't understand why people teaching him to mieow ... hahahaha... Instead of embarassing itself, it died to save his pride. Mieow loud loud... cb Mieow!... MIEOW!! die better la.

Yup. In reality, the MK grazing vios engine gone already. Together with its pride, pistons and cons...

Then lately, I found out the tuner is actually the big head who is trying his luck. He also took his cell phone and snap pictures of the powervalve designs in sam's office. Really cb. Not say sam's design damn good la, really so farking good meh?... You just need to buy a cat and it will automatically Mieowwwww......

This is a classic workshop tech joke.... only old people will enjoy...

kudos to our red vios tracky.... timing improved.

Coming soon

Ok... I'm leaving myself a note here...

Stock wrx, totally LTA compliant type, boost up and basic reflashing
Euro R NA on methanol
Suzuki swift sport turbo charged on methanol
WRX 2.5L with Sumo turbo going for 600 bhp
1.5L TS turbo with powervalve and methanol dynoed at 220 bhp, 30 kg torque, 170 bhp on wheel
Honda stream turbo charged switching from Microtech ecu to run on emanage ultimate
WRX 2.0 with VF22 turbo

Yes! 1.5L TS turbo making 220 bhp. Owner is a returning customer, he used to have his lancer GLX turbo charged done up by us. I'm gonna write up on his recent races and post the results. This ride looks great and definately keeping up with the latest trends and designs. Once I've the time, I'll write up the articles one at a time.

Most of the time, I ended up writing half-way... then by the time I return, I have one more on hand to think about... hahaha

Mitsubishi lancer glx Maxed out

Mitsubishi lancer glx Maxed out

We have this ride's engine boosting high boost levels, with boost cooler injection kit, front mount intercooler, AVCR boost controller, cams, powervalve, racing clutch and many more...

What we get is a lancer glx that wheel spins on 17" rims, when the turbo kicks in with this setup. Amazing!

In just a short span of 3 weeks, we converted a lancer that used to be running slower than a stock suzuki swift sport to one that out runs a wrx.

Yes, you bet the owner is happy!! I would be happy too if I were him... stock quality idling at 750 rpm, smooth transitions, smooth day-to-day driving, but when the power kicks in, everything changes.

Overall, this ride is a head turner. From the outside, there is nothing that suggest this ride has this much potential, except for his large exhaust pipe, everything else says I'm normal and stock.

For the record, owner drives into garage, orders something, gets it fixed up and off he goes with whatever he wanted when he first came in. Satis feeling...

Congrates! You're now one of the fastest in your category.

LJ lang Subaru WRX 2.0

Subaru WRX 2.0

Eh, lan jiao lang... this is for you only.... hahaha This car belongs to a good friend... he sold off his 300 bhp lancer glx and bought a wrx. What we did to his car is up in a bigger turbo, install a monster sized top mount intercooler, plug in a 825 cc injectors, pump up the fuel regulator and tune up his car via ecu-reflash.

Coolz... lan jiao lang's car ended up damn bloody torquey... you try to sit up without leaning back to the seat, you'll end up like a mentally unstable passenger who keeps slamming himself to the seat while the car boost away. I tried it and I was wondering how come the back rest never break like those carbon fibre type... look, if your car seat breaks, its not my fault ok... it the car's torque... we boost 1.7 Bar... lan jiao lang claims its only 1.6 bar... whatever... anyway... rev cut is set at 7800 rpm and if he ever wanna race with me, I'll secretly flash his car to rev cut at 3000 rpm... steady boh?

right now, car should hit a 350 bhp. This ride is very well setup for sprints. Needless to say, owner is happy like fark, except for the need to relocate his front o2 sensor to accodomate the powervalve, everything is perfect. I spent 2 cans of saliva explaining the front strut bar effects on traction and suspension system...

so, for the record, front strut bar serves to reduce the front tyre traction in relation to the rear, this effect can also be achieve by other means of suspension tuning, like losing tyre pressure and stuff.... anyway... you run along and enjoy your new car... when you figure out how to do it properly on non-reclinable bucket seats without seriously contorting your body and lark-chiong, let me know...

overall, this setup is perfect for 20 lamp post sprints and car park rally

Subaru TS 1.6 NA powers up

Subaru TS 1.6 NA powers up

This time, with a larger mid-pipe...

the results, you beef up the super high end portion. Hmm... owner asks me how come like that...

So, to keep things simple, the function of the mid-pipe in an exhaust system serves as a carrier. Thats all... Car setup can be simple if you know how... but, difficult, if you have no clue what all those stuff means...

Honda Stream NA powers up

Honda Stream NA powers up

Yup, this ride made me lost a bet with Sam hahaha... I betted this setup should win... while Sam betted another which runs open pod, with a special type of extractor.

I bet the cold air intake with stock extractor. Knn, I lost.

That cost me 1 dinner for 4 at Gullimard Turtle house. The Turtle soup there has tender turtle meat and very nicely stewed turtle soup, with additional turtle skin and a small claypot of crocodile stew, it made me rethink my theories on car setup.

I must admit, Sam still has it huh? Or its just lousy me... anyway... I'm based on theories and he based mainly only his greasy brains? who knows... If you ask me, I bet its because of our bet that made him use his blains... hahaha

Anyway... after that run, he decided to put in the same extractor, a new HKS muffler and redo his air intake setup.

Here's the results :
Much Better mid range (3000rpm) and stronger high end (5000~)

Mitsubishi lancer 1.6 turbo charged.

Mitsubishi lancer 1.6 turbo charged.

Owner recently fitted his turbo kit somewhere and then had a run with a stock suzuki swift sport. After losing to the swift sport, he decided to do something about it. Its a nightmare to lose with a turbo kit, BOV blowing away, aftermart cams, racing clutch and see the swift pulling away... OMG!

Ok, we retune his ride, fix up his 2 weeks old damaged turbo and intercooler. yeah, i too wonder why people will use these parts in the first place.

Ok, now, we give him high boost! with gusto... Yah... good enough to make the owner smile from ear to ear. Now, its time to win that easy ride brudder :)

Oh, the owner is so happy with the results, he now has plans for powervalve and boost cooler this coming week. In fact, he wanted to install the kit immediately after we tuned his car... hahaha... Sam asks that he go enjoy this new setup first coz, we did spend much effort doing up his ride, so, its good to enjoy it first before moving...

Subaru 2L WRX on twin scroll VF36 turbo

Subaru 2L WRX on twin scroll VF36 turbo

Just a quick look at what this turbo can do.

Turbo spool up is very smooth. Compared to the usual turbos, the sound of the turbo spool up also different. Boost wise, after tuning, this ride starts spooling as early as 2000 rpm and pulls strong at 3500 till redline 7800 rpm.

This ride has been tune to give good low end response. The mappings inside is also made for track use, so, making this turbo work hard is not an issue at all :)

Overall, this subaru packs a good 350 bhp with excellent ride quality.

Verdict:
Its good. But, pricey turbo hahaha

Toyota Estima 2.4L Turbo charged

Toyota Estima 2.4L Turbo charged

To begin, lets take a look at the specs of this car.

Capacity: 2,362 cc
Engine: 4 cylinder In line 16 valve DOHC
Compression: 9.6
Bore x stroke: (88.5 x 96.0) mm
Power: 168 bhp
Transmission: Super CVT-i with sequential shift-matic

Kerb Weight: 2,140kg

So, we have a heavy car. If you must, if we scale down this ride in comparison to the 1.6L category, we have a car that places itself slightly faster than an Altis.

Its not surprising to see this ride pulling away while you keep your accelerator floored, even for its massive 2.14 ton, because of its capacity and cvt tranny, this ride can still do well for it size.

What we did for this ride is basically, powervalve (tm), Boost cooler, VF series turbo, controlled using emanage ultimate, cast manifold, external wastegate, big injectors and AVCR boost controller.

From the top, this ride's setup look like a charm. The welding work on the piping seams are smooth and engine bay presents itself perfectly.

When this ride is stock, at wide-open-throttle, it produces 168 horses. Now, with the VF turbo installed, this WOT 168 can still be felt for that nostalgic feeling, but at 30% trottle setting. For very original acceleration and pickup, you need to keep your feet light at 10~20%. This retain the original look and feel of the ride.

At WOT now, car produces a neat 300 bhp. With the VF turbo working at 1 bar of boost all thanks to it lower and usual compression ratio, this ride transform itself totally to a whole new category of class and performance.

With an extremely spacious and comfortable interior and 300 horses at will, CVT transmission, even with the turbo installed, this ride retains its stock look and retains it stock quiet operation.

Powervalve setting has been setup to operate like its part of the car. Its opening time is natural and making this ride sound like a lambo at the tweak of a switch.

Owner is not at all new to car modifications, he used to own a fully done up wrx and to get a car modified by us for the first time, he was surprised by the quality of work done. Idling is perfectly stable at 500 rpm and car never stalls. Performance wise, there's no doubt about it, 1 bar boost and 300 bhp. Shiok!

The old pasir panjang market is still around and the owner of that seafood stall still the same... hahaha...

Owner is happy. He called Sam and told us a couple of days later that the ride is great. Of course la... knn, 300 horses leh...

verdict:
needless to say. Shiok!

On the flip side, this ride drinks fuel like nobody's business... haha... I think to people who buys an estima, they dun bother about fuel la... haha... 60L fuel tank to begin with...

Stock legacy GT tuned

Stock legacy GT tuned

Yes, Stock. Completely stock. Stock intake, stock airbox, stock actuator and stuff.

The stock vehicle comes with a map which consumes huge amount of fuel and extremely underpowered. Even if you don't need the power part, the part which consumes a high amount of fuel should tell most people this ride should be able to run on a leaner mapping and still stay young and healthy.

With the crazy rising cost of petrol at US$140 / barrel, its no wonder why so many legacy Gt are asking for a retune.

Again, hardware side is all LTA compliant and with minimal tweaking to retain all the stock looks and feel, Sam tweak and I tune, we present the owner with a Gt that is boosting 1.4 bars of boost while everything else remain intact in the car.

FC is definately much better now even with the increased amount of boost, since most of the driving occurs thankfully in the sane regions of driving.

Well, the result of this car can make the tight budget man smile. Hahaha. Of course! No need for messy modification and stuff. More Bhp, Better FC. LTA Compliant.

Its not us, its subaru.

Toyota Vios turbo charged

Toyota Vios turbo charged

We wrote something about this ride before, and this is the same customer as the earlier posts.

Now, we have seen the car installed a walboro fuel pump and many other things which requires us to fix up and retune.

The entire mapping was changed and there was something disturbing in the Emanage blue unit which warrants a full retune for this ride to run properly.

Overall, this ride is a very powerful ride, boosting a high of 0.9 bar of boost on a 950kg chasiss, racing clutch, powervalve, fully tuned suspension system, emanage blue, sard fuel regulator, walboro 255 fuel pump, AVCR boost controller and many more...

Anyway, owner has enough experience by now to see that setting up a car is no simple feat.

At the end of the day, all are happy and talking about sillypore garmen and my Albert Eistein theories. hahaha.

Mazda 323 turbo charged

Mazda 323 turbo charged

Heres one ride with everything... we're asked to retune the car which is running on Emanage blue. This ride comes with a IHI VF 24 turbo, racing clutch, and all the necessary things to make you wanna bring a fire extinguisher along while tuning this ride.

For one, the fuel regulator was leaking fuel. We can smell a strong petrol smell when the engine was running, and a close look at the regulator, you can see petrol ozzing out from the faulty regulator. That good enough reason for you to reach for that ignition key and turn off the engine.

Tuning this ride is full of fun and one can see that many of the setup in this ride has been nicely done. From what we can cook from this car, we have made the 'g' stronger when the turbo kicks in. This equates to increase torque and horses.

Overall, this ride is a nice ride to have, given its light chasis and ease of maintenance.

On the flip side, this ride is a little old already, so, I think its like you either like it or not.

Personally, I am impressed with this ride. Its one of those car which will make you think twice before passing it by...

Subaru TS 1.5L Turbo charged

Subaru TS 1.5L Turbo

This car is just less than a month old and is ready for turbo charging. Car has barely run-in and the job of running the car was left to us :)

In comparison to the older TS model, this make is slightly underpowered mainly due to its smaller capacity. The turbo kit for this car is relatively simple, a custom extractor, up-pipe, downpipe, TD04 turbo, sub injectors, AVCR boost controller, powervalve (tm), sard r2d2 bov and controlled using Emanage blue.

To add to the list of power packed gadets, we throw in a boost cooler to ensure maximum horsepower is extracted from this tiny 1.5L engine. We also maximize on the new AVCS and coil-on-plug ignition system that comes stock for this new model.

From sam's point of view, we're pretty used to the older model looks and feel and the amount of power it can produce. As compared the the 1.5L, we personally felt that it is somewhat lacking in terms of bhp for a subaru TS.

Well, from the owner's point of view, this kit is remarkably good. Its exceeded his inital expectation and felt that if his car can outrun an integra, it should be good enough. Well, the ingetra owner did gave him the thumbs up. On gear 1, integra was 3 cars ahead of the TS, on gear 2, both cars is on par, on 3rd, TS hugging tight to the turbo's full boost accelerates hard past the integra. wow. not bad liaoz...

The results, is a smooth car, perfect idling and running on automatic tranny. There is no way to tell from the outside that this car has been modified!

Verdict:
Use this kit to increase the bhp. Easiest way to achieve that 50% increase in bhp!

Mazda MX-5 Turbo charged

Mazda MX-5 Turbo charged

There are only a few miatas running around with turbo charger around in our sillypore roads. Owner was running on a mapping done by another tuner in sillypore. Also very famous and resides in the same building as us. For economic and reasons of promoting world peace, I refrain from commenting about the past. World peace brudder. Smile and laugh more, make you a happy farker.

Owner from morning wait until night... wait until damn sianz liaoz... hahaha... I came at 2pm suppose to touch on the wrx, then followed by the miata. End up, started tuning the miata only at 7pm.

This Miata is one of a kind type. Exhaust is as loud as no exhaust, interior done up nicely with all the nice nice lights like those in the movies.

This ride only requires tuning that day.

Ok, we basically optimized the maps to what we feel it should be. And the results, faster spool up, no jerking during cruising. The car also feels lighter and pulls harder on boost.

Owner requested us to push the car to the limits, and we did. Full boost is almost 1 bar. Very very scary feeling. From the top, we saw that when the car runs, the tail tends to weavel a little as it tears down the street.

This ride is simply a class of it own. Running on Links standalone ecu, response and fuel consumption is tuned to those familiar with standalones.

Overall, the car feels much much better. From the outside, this car is a real head turner. Looks very sporty and driving this ride does give you that racey feeling inside. The entire is very nicely decorated and adding the turbo charger puts this car a category of cars which combines good looks with performance. On board, you have sound proofing and ICE. I'm not sure what else is missing here hahaha...

I do have a feeling the owner will be back to install something soon... but, i have no clue what else is requried here hahaha...

hmm...

anyway... everyone left with a smiling face. And a good weekend ahead :)

Verdict:
Wow effect. Fully done up.

Mitsubishi Lancer glx Turbo with boost cooler

Mitsubishi Lancer glx Turbo with boost cooler

Its our returning customer... we now added in a boost cooler and together with the front-mount intercooler effect, this ride releases it fullest potential.

The results is OMG! damn good. How often do you see a car that runs like the old vtec engines? Gear shift, wheel spin and then turbo spools up that time, spin again! Damn shiok lor.

Boost also not sky high type, engine happily running with the settings. In short, this lancer has reach the end of the Stage 3 modifications. Next step is to beef up the internals and go stage 4.

Owner expresses the need to work more on the handling to keep the car under control with this massive increase in bhp.

With a little briefing on how this setup works and what to expect, this ride is ready for the roads.

We have already noted the differences in all the setups with the theories proven well beyond our imaginations. Overall, this is an excellent kit to have and I would recommend for people looking at pushing the stock engine to its limits in a safe manner.

Verdict:
Nothing ordinary about this ride. Excellent kit. Definate eye-opener.

Subaru WRX 2.5 with IHI vf35 turbo

Subaru WRX 2.5 with IHI vf35 turbo

The VF35 is one of my favourite turbo among so many turbos on the list. Reason being the massive head slamming torque this turbo can produce for this ride put this car perfectly suited for our sillypore road. Turbo spools up very strongly at 2500 and hit full boost at 3500 rpm on gear 1.

Setup was simple and straight forward. We did everything extremely stealthy which to the privy eyes, this setup will definately slip through. Nothing extreme on this setup and seriously, no one will suspect this ride packs a bunch of horses ready to be released any time you step on the gas.

This simple setup will give most big spenders a run for thier money. You retain stock drivability, stock idle quality and comfort as good as factory produce.

The torque for this ride will give and passenger a good neck excercise each time you step on it. Between stock and now, the owner can feel the massive difference in the way the car pulls.

This setup is perfect for people who are particularly careful with they way they spent their money. For the amount of horse power gained on this setup, you can rest assure the bhp gained outnumbers the money spent by far.

Car retains the stock responsiveness while packing the mid range with a bigger punch than before. The VF series turbos are well known for their spool ups and in this case, the results are impressive.

Owner test drove the car and was basically impressed with the car. He have personally tried a few cars till date and I believe this setup is a ride worth mentioning.

On the flip side, this setup is not one which aims at high peak horsepower. This is suitable for people who wants to push the powerband away from the TD-04 regions and pack them into the mid range. This will mean a more gentle ride during normal driving and an aggressive mid range ride. High end will be lacking at the 5500 rpm region as compared to bigger turbos.

To cook this dish, put in a VF35 turbo, decat the exhaust, put in a good boost controller like HKS EVC we're using, add in samco pipings and tune the car. Of course, you can add salt and pepper and garnish it with Genome meters and serve with a dash of vodka. Its up to you. :)

Verdict:
Simple and straight forward setup. For those who are trying to push the powerband slightly higher than stock for better FC and also much more power during overtaking situations.
Good for sillypore street driving :)

Subaru Legacy GT

Subaru Legacy GT

Legacy GT is subaru's line of cars which combines high performance together with comfort. The interior of this ride will make every family man drool with the engine bay packed with a 2 litre horizontally opposed flat 4 boxer engine, the twin scroll turbo charger will keep the family man happy with the easy acceleration and extremely easy to drive around our sillypore roads.

This ride comes stock as the owner enjoys the current stock setup and only want to enhance the existing setup. You are basically looking at a LTA compliant car is minimal modifications to the car. Running on legal aftermart HKS exhaust and open pod, boost controller and tuned using reflash method.

The results of this ride is impressive. After tuning, the torque and g-force of this ride increased trememdously and with the owner of this ride in the car with us during tuning, he witness for himself how rich the stock ride is running. This also explains his recent lost to a stock Euro R and has absolutely no clue why he lost till now.

Of course, we dun just fix up the entire stock GT mappings, we also increase the boost to a safe limit for maximum enjoyment.

I wouldnt exactly say this is a low budget setup since buying the car is already costing a bomb. And while most people who buy aftermart exhaust only buys 1 exhaust, the GT has to buy 2 to remain symmetric.

Overall, you'll be assured of a better fuel consumption, better and smoother pickup.

During tuning, sam was like enjoying himself alot lor. Especially in the winding bends of lim chu kang lanes, going at high speed and high boost is not something you'll get everyday. Skill wise, I must admit, this old man really got something. When we were at 40 tiang earlier, watching some drag race, he was telling us he know this guy la, that guy la... I told him, his category belong to those who is balding and walks around with beer belly liaoz la... hahaha

verdict:

Excellent for people who enjoys the current stock setup and wish to spruce up the ride a little without creating a lemon.
This setup retains the executive looks and feel. With the added bhp, he can outrun most wannabees by far.
This will definately improve the fuel consumption and release the untapped power

btw, we removed his spring boost... lucky he told us beforehand la... hahaha...

Whats lacking:
ATF cooler :)

Subaru TS 1.6 NA with water injection system

Subaru TS 1.6 NA with water injection system

This ride comes with Open pod filter, Legal aftermart exhaust system, big throttle body, sard fuel regulator and many more... this is the pig-nose model...

Basically the owner wants to extract every single horses possible out of this EJ16 engine without going turbo, at least for now of course... :) You squeeze this engine like squeezing juice from a lemon. Squeeze and squeeze until every drop cum out, then you put in your mouth and suck and suck till the seeds also pop out. Then you inject water into the lemon and suck and suck till your cheek starts crawling muahahaha... shiok ok. A little sadistic will not do any harm one la....

I fully understand why this kit appeals to the owner. LTA friendly. Cost friendly and enjoy sucking every drop of citric acid from the lemon pulp.

Subaru being a car that can be modified with ease, you can almost be assured that more modification or poison, whichever applies to you, will come in step by step.

With the new injection system, owner is happy with the results. Smooth pickup, car feels much lighter, perfect idling, excellent fuel consumption. Emanage blue does the job well. And still using the stock TS ignition coil. Yes. Coil will not burn one.

Ok, we did burn 1 coil. hahaha... why? coz, there is a voltage spark optimizer which was in the car and we didnt notice this until we start troubleshooting... sianz leh... tell the owner confirm won't burn coil, end up ai yoh... a little pai seh feeling. Well, to prove our point, we put back an original TS ignition coil. Steady boh? This time without the spraking piece of chocolate screwing up the coils.

hmm... owner test drove the car. When he came back, he was like damn happy lor... hahaha... can understand la... he came fully prepared with alot of knowledge. Unlike most of our customers, you tell them, they also dun care.. just make it fast can liaoz... This owner knows his stuff one leh... dun pray pray. Its like porn. You watch and watch, also tak shiok leh bung, you read FHM and study Maxim also cannot compare with DIY with you being the porn star one...

So, with all the knowledge, seeing it in reality is something that appeals to our lemon squeezing friend hahaha...

Verdict:

Lemon Squeezers loves this, squeeze every single horse power with the legal limits of sillypore. Pass inspection and blah blah blah...

updates:
- our cs3 lancer turbo without intercooler survives drag at 40 tiang drag race. The other fella is left waiting for tow truck to get his intercooled lancer cs3 to his workshop
- our honda stream also chock up his fair share of wins against his fellow mates, not bad hor? hahaha...

Mazda RX8 supercharged with boost cooler injection kit

Mazda RX8 supercharged with boost cooler injection kit

Yes. This is a really cool ride. I really like this one. This ride is tuned previously by another guy. Very very famous one. This tuner has one of the fastest lap timings in sepang with his evo. Till date, I havent heard anyone broke his record.

Ok, this ride is simply fabulous. Rotary engines are impressive. We spent the evening installing the injection kit and went out to tune the ride. Ride comes with racing clutch, lighten flywheel, manual GB, supercharger kit, emanage ultimate, aftermart exhaust system, open pod. And of course, the latest addition is the injection kit.

We retune the car to give better response, removed the power surge on sudden WOT, and also setup the ultimate to be able to switch maps to maximize the injection kit to the fullest. So, the owner has the option to reconfigure his ride on the fly. Very much like flying an airplane hahaha..... On-this, on-that la...

Owner test drove the car and was very impressed with the results. During my short conversation with him, I understand that he has some of background knowledge of air/fuel ratio and stuff and commented that my tuning is very impressive. Sam? Of course happy la...

Supercharger is the setup which will give you that instant power on the low end side. On a RX8, wow, damn nice.

Results:
Very smooth acceleration, smooth cruising, more torque, more power and with injection kit, car pulls even stronger till redline 8000 rpm. Nice.

On the flip-side, I felt this is a very expensive setup. I mean, thats me la... may not be an issue to some people, I think... hahaha...

Subaru TS 1.6 Turbo charged

Subaru TS 1.6 Turbo charged

This ride has his turbo kit nicely done up with intercooler and all the necessary things like emanage blue, wrx intercooler, avcr boost controller.

Problem with this ride is that it doesnt pull as hard as it should and there is a significant dip in power followed by a sudden offensive surge with you go wide-open-throttle (WOT). We recently did a TS turbo kit which out-performs this ride by far. That kit is by far the fastest TCed TS we have seen.

Well, not to worry, we rebuilt the turbo kit, added a sub injector into the car, fix the idling problem. This ride modified his throttle body and because it is wrongly calibrated, the idling becomes erratic and very often stalls by itself.

We spent 2 evening fixing and tuning this ride. On the second day, owner followed us for tuning session. Besides talking cock along the way, we entertained ourselves with our boost cooler injection kit. This special addition to our kit releases the fullest potential of this setup. Still using the stock TS ignition coil, we boosted all the way from AMK to farmmart in lim chu kang for supper. Enroute, we had the opportunity to try a honda Euro R. lol... with 50% throttle, this ride can keep up with the euro without any problem, all the way. If you ask me how fast we went, I'll just say, till the legal speed limits of our expressway lor. hahaha.

Sam commented that with this latest setup, the car feels like a rex. From me, I know this is the fastest a TCed TS can go on a stock 1.6L engine. I have seen many TCed kits till date, and nothing compared to this setup. Oh, we are using the stock TS ignition coil. Nope, doesnt burn coil. thks.

Owner? you say leh... smile all the way lor... his ride already tuned up mah, last time normal driving already full of problems, with this setup, not only his normal cruising feels like a stock car, his torque and powerband has increased massively from the previous setup. With a TS feeling like a rex, ai yoh, value for money liaoz la.

At farmmart, we hoot cockles and hoot prawns plus hoot some satay... dunno why owner didn't hoot the cockles... hahaha... maybe see us eat too disgusted liaoz hahaha... Harm leh, i tell you how to eat... First you open the shell carefully with your 2 fingers gently, thumb pressing gently back, to reveal the red fleshy interior. You use your tongue to sip the clam's juice before it flows down and drip on the table. Stretch that tongue of your and reach inside to lift up the meat, a up and down rythmic motion is necessary to successfully lodge your tongue on the clam's g-spot, then, you want to suck hard on the flesh, maintaining pressure till the clam's muscle relaxes and with that, you sit back and enjoy the rest... hahahahaha... knn, steam or not? hahaha

Verdict:

Just Do it!!

Honda Stream 1.8 NA tuned

Honda Stream 1.8 NA tuned

Yes, old news... 1 week old only nia, dun takan me la. Damn shack these days haha...

Owner knows us through the car we have tuned. Car comes with emanage ultimate tuned by a famous ah-no-neh tuner. With all due respect, we felt the car can do better with a more personalized mapping. I felt the mapping is very much across the board kind of tuning, which works for most cars, but in my opinion, if we can do a more personalized mapping, we can maximize the full potential of this ride.

Honda stream is not an easy car to tune. This ride comes with open pod filter, aftermart extractor, aftermart exhaust, decat and tuned with emanage ultimate. Car is also heavy on ICE which make tuning more challenging.

Honda builts this engine with a more tamed ride in mind, smooth acceleration, smooth pickup and stuff, what we wanna do here is to change all that and make a car that accelerates hard, and sharper pickup as a result of increase torque. We also made the vtec effect more pronounced. Without tuning, you can be assured the vtec pulling effect is unnoticed.

We guessed that if honda is going to put in a mapping like our, many would have felt that the honda stream is a little too aggressive for grandpa.

Owner went with us for tuning session and afternoon tea at Jln Kayu. Over teh tarik, we already talk about the mass reduction in exhaust back firing, a more lively ride, the vtec pulling effect and no jerk during gear shifting.

With 4 person on board during tuning, most of the time, the car will feel heavy. And when the owner comes back from his test drive, I can feel a sense of achievement from the driver. Some people are like that, they buy something with something they wanna achieve, its that when they got it, they conquered the world. hahaha... His friend who went with him for test drive also shared the same feeling of a lighter and responsive ride. Its Vtec mah, wat you expect.

verdict:

Do this for maximizing your cars potential. Stream is quite detuned with it comes out from the factory. Expect a more 'vtec' like car after tuning with minor stage 2 modifications.

Otherwise, try turbo chargering this ride.

Honda Civic Esi Turbo Charged

Honda Civic Esi Turbo Charged

Honda Civic are a special breed of cars which can without doubt stir the hearts of most people. Whether be it a tiong car you used to own, or the infamous vtec 'kick-in' phenomenon which many will still talk about today, this special breed of cars will surely make you say something about it.

Till today, I still have a strange feeling for these cars. :)

This ride comes with all the necessary equipment that is ready for 0.9 bars of boost on this 1.7L vtec engine. Yes, no mistake on the capacity or boost. 0.9 bar intercooled turbo charged 1.7L Vtec engine. On a 900kg chasis.

With every engagement of gear, when the turbo spools to its max, the car will snake on it feather-lite weight with the vtec screaming away... omg... wet.

last evening, we managed to tune an extremely smooth idling and fine tuned the cruising to achieve an almost stock feeling. No Cel Light, No engine stalling. Ride is a sure eye opening. Of course, with the car like this on a drizzling evening, if not because sam have to go home to cut cake and owner is rushing us, i think tomorrow will be a safer day to tune this ride.

We're suppose to go Tampines 138 kopi shop to makan kwap chap one... i tell you the tua tao intestine and the tao pok is damn solid lor... the pig skin hor, ai yoh... no water run la... The only problem is that when we reached there, closed already. fark.

We used, emanage ultimate, big injectors, wrx turbo, front mount intercooler, greddy BOV, big bore throttle body, bigger and high-comp engine plus an extra set of lam pah chee.

Verdict:
You only do this if you have the balls of hercules. Cars snakes with 4 people inside the car :)
Very demanding on skill, lucky that sam got some la, cb, how many times must I tell him not to drive like dat... I think to him is a nostalgic feeling la... to me is damn scary lor... Amitabah la... hahahaha

Some updates:
- Vios turbo (non-intercooled) pushes Euro R on Pasir Gudang until the Euro R spins out
- Subaru Sti 535 bhp, clocks 2:46 for best personal timing.
- One colt version R hand itchy, turns the boost controller knob like his GF nipples, sam ask you to come back immediately to check your car.
- Mitsubishi lancer on racing clutch, boost 0.6, wheel spin when turbo kicks-in

Mitsubishi Lancer Turbo

Mitsubishi Lancer Turbo

This is a 1.6 Mit. GLX with intercooled turbo setup. Running on emanage blue. Story is that owner has his kit installed in JB from a workshop called sp***-works. And he is searching for people who can help remove his emanage blue and install unichip and retune his car.

Problem is that the car cannot idle smoothly and turbo has difficulty spooling up. Car feels extremely laggy and lack of power.

We initally thought that all we have to do is to retune his ride and go eat turtle soup in geylang. But, we ended up fixing a hell lot of things that was incorrectly setup. We ended up changing injectors, fuel pressure, emanage setting and parameters, wiring and added some sensors.

While fixing the car, there were times when we saw the owner was nervous and scared when he was the car's cel lights lited up and crappy idling. We need to reassure him that its normal that during course of fixing up and identifying faults, there will be instances like this. He also asked if the cel lights liting up is normal. And I made matters worse when i said cel light should remain off.

After all was rectified, we started the car. This time the owner stood in front of the car, looking at the engine, shocked. "Like this one ah?" Yeah. The results of a properly setup car is very smooth idling. You have the feeling that the engine has stalled. But, a peek at the pulley belts will tell you the engine is running. Cel lights remains off.

Owner is very new to car modification and during the hour of fixing the hardware, we gave a crash course on car modification :)

Tuning is straight forward. Faster spoolups, more power and maximizing the mitsubishi engine. Glx engine like the older subaru engine has no major technology like VVTi,vTec,VTT and AVCS. The depend solely on their stock cams profile, and their good mechnical efficiency.

We didnt get to the Turtle soup shop in geylang on time... geez, we reached there and was told to come back again. Closed already. haiz... Owner tested the car and is happy with the results.

This ride is a entry level stage 3. Which will benefit more from a free flow exhaust system like powervalve and a smoother turbo inlet pipe. High quality stainless steel pipings and aluminium pipings are the choiced selection.

Cars with this setup retains stock drivability and response while a heavy foot will give the addition bhp needed. Most of the overtaking was done with 50% throttle. Thats more than enough for sillypore roads. 100% is xiao ding done driving...

The turbo used in this setup is a very old turbo. If he were to be using a newer second hand turbo, I can assure you the results will be much much better.... turbo mah, what you expect.. :)
