Mitsubishi Lancer Ex 1.5 Turbo

Mitsubishi Lancer Ex 1.5 Turbo

The No. 1 Lancer Ex turbo in singapore was done using Emanage Ultimate, we decided this time round, we are going to try Unichip Q to tune this ride. To chatch a glimpse of the action using Emanage ultimate, click Lancer Ex 1.5 Turbo Charged

The owner of this fabulous ride is a car person. He is not the kind the drags down the alley. The lancer Ex 1.5 is a great ride to own. The comfort and style is in line with the latest designs in the market. Sam talks to the owner to understand what he is looking for and this time round, he decides that a TF-035 turbo which is the one used in the Colt Version R and Colt plus turbo will be turbo of choice.

The objective this time is to help the low end pickup and moving off from traffic.

We are retaining all the comfort that this ride has, the new car effect and smell hahaha. We wanted everything to feel like a factory stock Colt plus turbo, at a fraction of the price of course.

The burning question people have is, is unichip better than Ultimate? Well, to answer that, we must first ask ourselves, how far are going, in terms of car modification. If we're planning a simple bolt-on Turbo Kit, I would go for unichip for its price. However, if powervalve, cams, water-methanol injection kit and NOS is also in your wish list, then I would advise going for ultimate. Ultimate as dip switches and many many more functions to control your car as compared to Unichip. Unichip wise, you can still achieve 80% of ultimate's capabilities, except that you need to keep upgrading the unichip as you go along. For example, to control the 4 stock main injectors, the unichip requries another addtional module called the injector overdrive, which this comes in-built in ultimate.

Needless to say, both these piggybacks are excellent product and would advise to pick the one that suits your budget and mod. list. Talk to sam to get a better view of the picture, he will be more than willing to share his knowledge... kekeke

Ok, Lancer Ex 1.5 with TF-035 effect? Well, a simple way to explain myself would be to ask that you walk to the showroom to test drive the Lancer colt plus turbo or the colt version R. Then add another 30 bhp to that test drive feeling will be the effect of this No.1 Mitsubishi Lancer Ex. Turbo running on Unichip Q.

With all the previous knowledge on Ultimate's setting, we imparted to tuning unichip's settings. It wasnt straight forward and we took a couple of long hours working on this new setup.

TF-035 turbo on this lancer Ex 1.5 manages to achieve full boost at 2200rpm. This ensure maximum pickup enhancement on this ride. Of course, if we compare this with a TD04 turbo, TD04 will mean the car have a better high end and fair better on a drag race. Now, bear in mind, that this owner is not looking for high end power. No point giving him a 4500~7000 rpm powerband whereby the owner shifts gear at 3000 rpm right? So, our focus is on low-end.

This ride comes with 1.5L Mivec engine. With this added advantage, our dyno charts should show roughly 170bhp region on engine, similar to emanage ultimate setup in TD-04. Feeling wise, is identical to a slightly souped up Colt version R.

Gear 1, we stepped hard on the gas, and the car now willingly surges forward. It felt like a 2 Litre moving off effect. When the Rpm reaches 2000 rpm, the turbo propels the car forward like a honda's vtec effect, when the car reach 2500 rpm, it is already generating full boost and turbo is propelling the car forward. At 4500 rpm, the turbo runs out of breath... it feel like a stock 2.0L ride during the 4500~7000 rpm. When gear 2 engages, the turbo immediately spools up to give that torquey effect at 3500 region, Mivec takes effect. Mivec gives this ride that added advantage as compared to other ride without this technology during the mid-rpm region. High rpm 5500 and above, well... if you need power at this range, try TD04 or VF35... :)

Overall, this setup is excellent for those you really like the power of Colt plus turbo and loves everything else about the lancer Ex. I would also advise those people who likes this kind of setup to stick the GT badge behind hahaha... We are retaining a completely quiet drive. Exactly like stock Version R. So, with the GT badge, people can assume its a GT or something... Better still like Francis commented on this blog, stick Version-R badge hahaa... Evil.

Setup comprises of:
Bolt-on Turbo kit, Unichip Q with turbo module, Manual boost controller (upgradable to Electronic boost controller), TF035 turbo and bigger injectors.

coming soon...
Gerald's 502bhp wrx with td06-25G turbo

Lawrence's wrx with AVO 550 turbo and then TD05-18G turbo
