Xiao Jian's Sumo turbo WRX vs Evolution 10 race results

Xiao Jian's Sumo turbo WRX vs Evolution 10 race results

Race was scheduled in the wee hours of that morning. Xiao Jian's WRX has been planned for a Dyno tune that afternoon but, we were unable to secure a slot for him that day. Owner insisted to have his ride tune, coz, there will be a 40 tiang run that evening and if his ride is not ready by then, there is no point racing.

Previously Evo group have already dragged with xiao Jian and Evo won. However, when news got around that the wrx he tried with was boosting only 1.3 bars of boost, and his new forged engine is still running-in, he asked for a re-match to determine the real winner.

Evo comes with forged internal, cams and using Motec Standalone ecu to control. Tuner is famous Rhomxxxx.

Wrx comes with forged pistons, con rods and big Sumo turbo. Boost level? 2 bars for now.

Now, Sam got not much of a choice and pressured to tune. Ok, that night, we went 40 tiang, sam and myself, dragging down that lane numerous times and a constant reminder of completing everything necessary before the race starts. A few last minute hardware adjustments and stuff and tuning it to what it should be for this race keep us on our toes.

When we're done, we wanted to just go home, head for the showers, wash down those sweaty pores and dash for the bed. But, the andrenaline rush associated with a race keep us wondering if we should be there to watch the race. Tuning this ride is no simple feat.

After having our dinner at 12:30am, we decided to go watch the race.

I didnt know we were standing with the Evo supporters. While WRX supporters were on the opposite side of the road. Sam told me natuarally....That night, it was really chilly. The breeze from the cemetary that evening was especially cold that night.

Sam was able to mingle with the Evo group with ease, since some of their rides were actually done by him also, and me standing beside him? Well,.. nobody knows me anyway... so, that doesnt matter. Lame jokes. "If WRX win uh, Sam! Your tuning long long queue liaoz... hahaha" Sam replied, " hahaha... yah lor... hahaha..."

"...(laughing) your queue so long uh, queue until next year liaoz..." in hokkien was echoing in my head throughout the entire evening. hmm... that keep me even more excited.

First Run. From the ending point, you can only hear Xiao Jian's powervalve opening. You can't hear the Evo at all. All the spectators inched forward, eager to catch a close glimpse of the action. Sam's hand were shivering from the cold breeze and the excitement. When Xiao Jian zoom past, we got a radio call from the Evo that he Missed Gear! OMG! Ok, anyway, Xiao Jian considered as win round 1.

Run 2. Run 2 started with Xiao Jian clearing top speed and working his brembo brakes to a hash stop. You could hear the tyres was like getting hell lots of stress from that kind of braking. Making a quick "U" turn, he drove over to the start point with Style. vrrroooom boom. vrooommmm boom boom. OMG, the back fires sounds cool. I thought Xiao Jian's ride should have some kind of style while driving to the starting point right? kekeke. Ok, Run 2 ended with the same senario as run 1. Fark. Evo Miss gear and didnt want to step on the gas.... Well, WRX, continued anyway,... run2 WRX won. Back fire? Yup, the Evo group asked if we tuned anti-lag into the WRX, we just shrugged our shoulder and smiled. WRX back fires with slightly harsher acceleration, we kept day-to-day driving as per stock, no back fires, we made going to starting line with back-fire... in STYLE. We tune it such that during Runs, no back firing. Swee! Hmm... Hope Xiao jian like this style.

Run 3. Every one was impatient and the Evo group even more eager to see history repeat itself. This time, Xiao Jian misses gear 2. And When he engages gear 3, Evo was 3 cars infront of him. With discipline, he pushes the car hard and clears 7800 rpm gear 3 with Evo beside him. Engages Gear 4, Xiao Jian Sumo turbo pushes the car 2 lamp posts ahead of Evo. Xiao Jian's quick gear shifting skills Engages Gear 5 flawlessly! With skills like this, his ride responded with similar effect by propelling his WRX further from the Evo by another 2 Lamp post! WRX crosses the finishing Line first! Evo group suddenly went silent! The chattering went cold and the reminder of the serenity of the surrounding cemetary came back to life. Everyone except for those standing accross the street starting screaming! Almost in disbelief, "Sam! whoo hoo!" The entire WRX supporters punching in the air, jumping around!

"Thank you. Thank you." waving sheepishly to the Evo supporters who congratulated him and waving to the WRX group.

Run 4. Evo requested a rematch. Again, WRX tore the Evo. This time, it was worse, it was as-if the confidence level had given Xiao Jian the added determination to win.

Run 5. Its went as expected, except on gear 4, you suddenly hear only the Evo exhuast for once. The WRX's exhaust went silent.... Then after 2 seconds or so, WRX's powervalve filled the whole place again. I thought for a moment. Did Xiao Jian purposely gave the Evo a chance to win? Was he too confident till gear shifts are relaxed? Or did he miss gear 4?

Xiao Jian drove off immediately after the final run to meetup with his Race team.

Evo made the "U" turn and came over to our group. His racing cams and straight through exhaust gave the Evo a very fierce idling rythem. The Evo comes with Carbon fibre bonnet, stickers, GT wing, special TD05-20G turbo and many many more. Brakes, I think is AP racing or endless. Nice Ride! Dun get me wrong. This Evo is very very fast. Its just that tonight, it wasnt his show. The looks on the driver's face was filled to the brim with dissappointment. He couldnt manage a smile. It was a mix of embarassement and disbelief. The looks that tells you he has alot of questions but, no answers.

I got a call from WRX that they are going for a celebration, and trust me. The feeling of winning is invaluable. I had my fair share of losing, but tonight, lets just celebrate while we can.

A rematch is planned immediately and the Evo will be added more hardware and getting his ride re-tuned. Xiao Jian agreed for the rematch once the Evo has completed his modifications, he will be waiting. I'm not sure if WRX is going to modify somemore.... thats tomorrow's story.

Race aside, Sam took a wrong turn while tuning with Xiao Jian's ride into the cemetary area, he immediately switch off his headlights, clapped his palms together and apologized repeatedly in a remorseful manner, we apologize for disturbing the peace, and only hope wrx supporters also enjoyed that evening as much as we did. RIP seniors...

Congratulation to Xiao Jian for doing Subaru WRX proud that evening.
