Fiat NA 'tuned' up

Fiat NA 'tuned' up

Its the CNY season, long breaks, good rest, reunions are on everyones picking lists, for some, like Tony, he goes to Pasir Gudang for some drag race... yah... siao...

After CNY, everythings quiet for a while and we have a Fiat 1.4 coming over by the recommendation of our YRV turbo boosting 1.2 bars and winning many races, asking for a re-tune.

Fiat owner complains of lack of power and also funny jerky feeling when driving around on sillypore streets. I was reluctant to tune this ride for various reasons and Sam has the task of checking his ride's hardware to confirm what need to be done before my turn to check the computers.

Under Sam's scutiny, we revealed a stock Fiat with nothing done, except for an Aftermart piggyback Unichip version D.

Sam knows me well enough to tell him straight off, that I will not tune his ride. Unless of course, a few minor modification is done, there is seriously no point tuning this ride.

Before Sam did anything, he placed something into his car's ECU. Yeah... something perculiar. And removing the ignition voltage sparking enhancer. I caution the use of such devices if you simply read off the net on their product review, without first asking professional opinion on the truth behind these products. Understanding the makes and mech of these devices is sadly not sufficent for a layman to be able to go beyond the curtain to see the truth behind them and decide if the ride is going to really benefit from this. Truely, most of these products does in fact, do what they claim to be doing, but, in essence, most people would be better off without them. For example, we know viagra help in our sexual persuit of the hardest erection ever, but, in reality, grabing your dick in the shower room also shows the diamond hard muscle your dick has even without the help from popeye's spinich.

So, we removed the stainless steel designed spark plug optimizer from this ride and placed something to the ECU. We then ask the owner to go test drive his ride.

On returning, there were wide smiles and an aura of satisfaction surrounding the owner, he does resembles a paladin of rush and quickly asked what was done to his ride. Ride now feels sporty, responsive and the flat spots are now gone.

The thing Sam placed on the ECU is a device which by-passed the Unichip ECU and reverted the car to it original state. Simply, its as good as not running unichip at all. Now, in many instances, Unichip does help the car alot. However, in some situation more hardware is required to achieve the same desired results.

Owner shows a mixed feeling of being cheated and an idoit. Trying to be sensitive to such situations is paramount at this point of time. Trust me. We suggested some basic modification to his exhaust system, like removal of the catalatic converter and probably a better flowing intake system would benefit the ride before tuning the ride.

Well, for certain reasons, the owner wasnt very keen on the modifications we suggested and insisted for a re-tune which we politely declined. For those who know us personally like Mr Sean and our dear Gerald ond our Mr Alan / xiao jian and company.... you guys know that I for one is not in for your money kekeke... Sam? well, to a certain extent yes, and the good news is that he is too honest to cheat people, so luckily, his character overwhelms his desire to earn money by far... hahaha... who doesnt like money anyway, but many-a-times, its our conscience that made the decision otherwise.

Ok, owner's contenance reveals much, and that of the sort that tell you he has heard enough and would be more careful in future. ok, thats so much for now... :)

For those people who enjoys every single bit of NA (natural modification) and to those that hates turbo chargers.... well, heres my take... I too enjoyed every moment of my NA modifications, but at certain point of my modifications, I desired for more horse power which NA cannot achieve within my limited resources. Turbo was the most economic dollar per bhp and I went that way.

Well, in my pursuit for power in NA modifications, I tried enough hardware to give a extremely long write up which can be accompanied by their related technical notes which I would leave that outside our blog. I am extremely tempted to put it here, but, lets just keep that for our workshops discussions with Sam.

There are alot of modification which I have done in the past which doesnt produce any significant results. Well, I did it anyway for fun. Yes, fun only... it make me happy, so I did it anyway... hahaha... after that, I return it to the forum's For-Sale folder for the next trigger-happy netizen or the rubbish bin lor... Those thing usually don't cost more than 200~300 bucks to begin with... kekeke...

Looking ahead, we have 2 more lancer Ex 1.5 turbo charged in our schedules after this CNY, I havent decided if it is going to be Unichip or Emanage ultimate, hmm..., till then, keep smiling and enjoy the rest of this CNY... sam say he got alot of photos for me to post here... hahahaha... next time, when go watch drag race, I'll take some photos to share.... kekeke
