RACE! Xiao Jian vs Lawrence

RACE! Xiao Jian vs Lawrence

The much anticipated drag race gathers the minds of the multitude, pitting 2 of our best drag racers together leaving only the engine builders and engineering capabilities lining up at the start line.

Lawrence 2L wrx with stroker kit, well capable of pull 8500 rpm on his custom built subaru wrx, on a turbo famed for showing its prowess at 40 tiang drags. Driver is extremely experience with drags and you can expect calm and jovial emotions when he pits against Xiao Jian. Lawrence comfort level at top speeds gives him higher concentration level and focus which surpasses most amatuer racers. Xiao Jian mets not only a seasoned racer, but one which has a kit which has the infamous ability of putting the bigger horse power rides to shame. 2.0L stroker with lower peak bhp and high revving engine allows the vehicle to switch gears later than his opponent and engages the next gear at a higher than usual rpm, allowing much more bhp and torque in subsequent gears earlier than usual.

Xiao jian has been racing minor leagues after racing with james's tuscani turbo. During which he reported his twin plate carbon clutch is back to normal. He expects the same performace as usual when he drags with Lawrence.

Both car lined up. Launch!

Gear 1, Xiao Jian performs a perfect launch, the clutch held on with gusto pushing the 4 wheel drive to its maximum. RPM swipes rapidly across the face of the dash board, at 7800 rpm, xiao jian pressure to engage gear 2 paramounts as Lawrence continues to rev past 7800, glancing to his side, Xiao Jian observes Lawrence inched forward, in perfectly timed transmission, clutch-in, gear 2, clutch-out, and accelerator control, xiao Jian performs a flawless gear shift.

Lawrence clears gear 2, looking to his side, Xiao Jian is beside his 400 bhp wrx. A tinge of dismay sets in. It did not go as planned for he knew that his advantage of a smaller turbo and high revs has been expended. He hopes for the best with the remaining 30 lamp post to the finishing line

Xiao Jian engages gear 3. The moment he floored, the car bonnet tips up, defying gravity, Sumo turbo attacks the twin plate carbon clutch. As the rpm increases, Xiao Jian's wrx propels forward. Body kit and k-nuts presses the car back down to earth, clears 7500 rpm with urtterly dissappointed Lawrence struggling behind by 4 car length.

Knowing Lawrence is equally fomidable at top speeds, Xiao Jian without hesitation, engages gear 4 with the same effort he did with the lower crucial gears, wasting no time, he allows his Sumo Turbo and subaru engine to do the work of pushing his car to 200 km/h.

The evening came to a close in Xiao Jian's honour. Winning a stroker with 7~8 car length on his 2.5L wrx sure make his engine builder proud, at the same time, it made stroker fans puzzled with a multitude of questions flooding their minds. When I talked to Sam, sam say, "knn lor... he trying to piang my engine izzit...make me boh eng..." When you win, no questions asked. When you lose, lots of questions will flood your mind. Lucky for me, I tuned both cars... kekeke...

I wonder what Lawrence will say to me when I see him next time hahahaha....

Xiao Jian's next big race is brewing... So far, what we know is that this next race is against another ride modified in KL, malaysia... hmm... definately an eye opener for me... lately, xiao jian didnt do anything much to his ride, expect upgrade his radiator or something...I wonder is he will do anything further... If he did, it could be because his confidence level is shaken... maybe... I'll post once I get more information...

Meanwhile, drive safe and coming up next ...

Race! Lawrence vs Xiao Jian

Race! Lawrence vs Xiao Jian

A race is brewing, lawrence wrx vs Xiao jian Sumo turbo.

There is no details on the location and time yet.

Lawrence say, " knn, 600 beh nia (horse only)... nothing la.."

Sam, " you siao ah, 500 horse you don't jio, you jio 600 beh lat car"

Lawrence using the most scorning tone, " ai yah, 600 beh I scared ah... lai lah!"

sam laughing away, " ok ok,... i arrange for you..."

Lawrence satisfied with the answer " Like that more like it la... Like 600 scared of 400 beh like dat, I show you, 400 beh can still be a show stealer (in hokkien),..."

When we pop xiao jian the question, he immediately glee with eye wide open with amusement, "LAI uH!"

kekeke... I must be there to watch the race....

James's hyundai tuscani engine is now rebuilding... i do not know what else is gonna be built into this engine, for the last race, this engine has been boosting 1.7 bars of boost. Something to chew about when we look at korean engineering, how the koreans manage to build such fantastic machinary is something we would normally expect from the germans or the japanese. James and Derrick-san sure made Hyundai proud!

Subaru TS 1.6 Automatic Turbo charged

Subaru TS 1.6 Automatic Turbo charged

Saturday started off with lethargy from the leftover fatigue from long hours of tuning rides. If those ride were any simpler, it wouldnt have been this bad. MX-5 turbo, its infamous reputation of being harder to tune than most other japanese makes have kept ang mohs in the US quizzled over the way the mazda ECU reacts to aftermart modifications.

Subaru TS 1.6 turbo with automatic transmission is slightly easier to tune as compared to 2.5L NA, but, simple as it is, it has kept many tuner on their toes, each with their own individual way of interpreting why the car reacted like this and like that, all of which only made the customer more confused than ever. Too many have heard from those who failed and floated the community and too few have been fortunate enough to hear from those who made it work. Subaru TS's formidable ability to relearn matches those in Suzuki swift 1.5. The ability to relearn is a tool which you can use, and a pain in the arse if you don't know it well enough to use it.

Owner is a tall handsome chap, don't worry, I'm straight. Sam on the other hand may be not hahaha... just kidding. I told him that if he rubbed his dick in a horizontal motion long enough, he could draw some lines on his dick with a marker and use it as a short ruler.

I asked if Doctor liked the setup, he said if Doc didnt like it, your phone will ring liaoz... hahaha...

My conversation with the owner is pretty interesting, for example, he requested for me to boost 1.x bar on his engine. I told him this will destroy the engine in no time, he wasnt quite surprised by it, to which I starred at him with the most inquisitive look. And he further explained that he intended to upgrade his engine to a more devilish setup, something which will generate 200++ bhp. I was dumb found. Instead of keeping the 1.6 block, blowing it to pieces and then upgrading it, wasnt something I had in mind and would have done to someone, even if I dislike the fella. Till date, I havnet met another of such, and this owner is the second of such I've met so far.

I explained the various setup which can generate that kind of horsepower, and owner seems to be absorbing every bit of information I'm blasting at him...

Automatic transmission has its limitation, and we must work within our limits, much as the owner wants us to push beyond the limits, discipline holds sam and myself back and left last mintue instruction on how to DIY blow the engine. Well, there is a boost controller inside the car, one direction reads, "Less"... the other direction read "Hell".

Just turn and turn like you would with a jar of peanut butter in hell's direction, plant your foot on the gas, and sing your way home. Surest way to get a new engine. :)

Tuning this ride is straight forward. You use the same technique as you would with a TS with WRX engine. Except that you would tune it for one which has higher compression ratio than the latter. Owner pumps ron 95 fuel, between 95 and 98, in turbo charged application, ron 98 will yield better results. Of course, if power is not everything, then ron 95 will make economical sense trading off torque and bhp. A quick inventory check on what doctor sam has put into this ride, we're off tuning...

Gear 1, car moves off as per normal, allowing the automatic transmission to fully engage, flooring the accelerator, garret TD04 turbo spools up rapidly, the smooth chopping of air swirling past the turbo into the engine is clearly audible, especially for subarus. At 3500 rpm, the turbo awaken from slumber and jams the engine with as much pressure as we allow it, at this point, the car surged forward. Shoulders pressed back into the seat, boost meter shows the maximum boost we allowed it to go. How much? That we keep it to ourselves :)

Gear 2 engages and glancing at the rpm, its 3500 rpm, again turbo audible spool up coupled with super sprint version of boxer symphony takes a second or 2 to clear 5500 rpm for gear 3.

On gear 3 and above, the exhaust is still acceptable, given the output this ride is churning, the exhaust system after decatting is barely sufficient. This however, is not a major issue since after market exhaust system for TS comes in an arsenal of selection, the only headache is which one to choose from. For now, we have to make do with whatever hardware we have.

Looking back in time, since we were wacking about in seletar with Sean's TS turbo, I recalled how estatic sam felt when I tune his first TS turbo,... Today, it seems so long ago, the excitement and trill have since dwindled to a responsiblity and a job. This excitement is not lost, for it will be revived again with the owner.

Verdict:
Nostalgic feeling for sam and myself.

Doc's MX-5 Turbo

Doc's MX-5 Turbo

I remembered saying Subaru TS with Auto transmission is one of the most difficult rides to tune. Seeing doc's car, it reminded me of trying all my techniques in tuning, and to no avail. Yes, it reinforce the fact that sam loves to emphasis, tuning can only be good if the hardware is setup as good.

First night of tuning came to a unexpected stop when sam stopped by the roadside, winds down the windows and listen attentively to the engine, eyes gazing to the unknown, he revs the engine to detect the slightest form of engine damage. Muttering something under his breath, I could bearly make out the words, "...pinging..." I responded with a puzzled stare at him, not knowing why he is diagnosing the car for no apparrent reason.

He immediately alight, pops the bonnet to give a visual inspection on the engine bay. I couldnt believe what I heard from sam, that the engine is destroyed, while Sam was on the line with Doc by the roadside, deep down, I believe it was something else. He continues to check and he began to show signs of relief when he seem to have found the cause of his discomfort while tuning. The breather hose has disengaged itself while tuning. The engine bay has been smeared with oil coming off the breather hose, especially during high revving.

We continued to tune, using all the known techniques I have accumulated over the years for piggyback ECUs, I am baffled and dissappointed as I wondered what is the cause of this engine wierd reactions to my inputs. For a moment, I felt Doctor has created an abonimation, Frankenstein.

Sam gave me the half time gesture, and told me to continue tomorrow, a quick exchange on what should be done to the hardware setup, tuning will start all over again tomorrow.

Doctor was there that evening, reading "Mayo Clinic", I reckoned it must be some kind of literature which requires some amount of memorising before flipping the page, I came to this conclusion because I saw him reading the same book 3 months ago... Sam says I only read those thing I feel like reading, and I only absorb 10% of everything my eyes lay upon, grinning and proud of his analysis, I told him better than some people, never read at all, "CB" is the only reaction from Sam that evening... hahaha

Sam lost his cell phone that evening... hahaha... careless mule...

Next day, things went as per normal, we were at 40 tiang dragging this fabulous ride. MX-5 comes with Bose sound system, bucket seat for track day and very clean interior. You know, sitting in a doctors car feels really different, you would be curious what songs this special breed of humans listen to, no it wasnt cuban or latin hahaha, what they have in their car and stuff? When you peer into the engine bay, you will be able to find the Gucci and Prada of car parts installed for this doctor.

The newest entre in this mX-5 is a New upgraded turbo. Something he got from the USA himself. Tuning went perfectly after sam fixed up soemthing on the engine bay. This time round, it was simple and straight forward. No major chemistry was required to tune this ride and everything went perfectly. This turbo spools up at 3500 rpm and produces so much torque that made sam felt this ride would win his Civic turbo by far.

Overall, this ride now boast a very strong high end and a very smooth spool up. Low end wise, it will be a little laggy as compared to his previous turbo. But, we felt this would do just fine for now. At 1 bar of boost, the effects of a stock restrictive exhaust started to reveal itself and to make matters worse, because of the upgraded turbo, 1 bar this time was totally impossible. The last time this thing happened was on Lawrence's WRX at 1.9 Bars of boost on stock wrx exhaust. We lowered the boost slightly to the limits of the exhaust system.

Tuning this mx-5 requries everything from the tuner. Truly a challenge to make this ride function properly, extremely satisfying for me. For sam, this ride is a headache la... for anyone who made him work so hard, he would curse and swear like what we would do to our bosses in office.

Suzuki Swift 1.5 Turbo charged

Suzuki Swift 1.5 Turbo charged

When I asked sam if Albert Einstein is a Theoretical Physicist, Inventor or Philosopher, I expected something simple, and Sam being a genius himself, said Albert Einstein is none of the above. Yes, I almost fainted. hahaha... I cannot lessen my expression of amusement just listening to Sam. hahaha... He says Albert Einstein is a flexible person HAHHAHA!! fark man, I simple rolled on the floor laughing my farking ass off! hahahaha... This is the most radical description of Mr Albret I have ever farking heard of... Albert Einstein is a Flexible person... kakaka

Such were the conversation we have and debating about why he felts Albert Einstein is a flexible person filled the evening with much laughter. We were removing the Unichip Q from this Suzuki 1.5 turbo charged, and installing emanage blue. Not that we didnt want to use unichip, but, Sam needed something additional to be installed with the Q which to his horror, when he opened the shipment package from Unichip dealer, curses and ashes, he called up the dealer to fark them for giving him the wrong items.

You know, during valentines day, sam dated his wife. HAHAHA... cb right? Orang Tua already... they went for movie at dunno which fark cinema. Those mid-night show, I dunno if he did anything funny when the show start or not, but, before he going in, he bought some salad thing from the snack counter. Then he asked the counter girl, is this all I need, do I need anything else to go with this salad, the counter girl grinned and cracked a smile before saying "yes sir... thats all you'll need..."

When he was sat down beside his highly intellectual wife (in comparison to sam), his wife glanced at him and asked, "Are you going to eat those with your fingers?". Sam stomped out of the cinema and across street, went back to the counter girl, he asked the same question again.... then in a loud reply sam shouted " ...I faaaarrrkkk you!" The ang moh gao beside the counter girl shreiked, shoulders coiled back, "oooohhhhh" in the most oblivious expression ... hahaha... Mr sam once again, doing sillypore poly proud again. I bet they didnt know he has a diploma in engineering from silly poly. hahahaha... kakaka!! Yes. Well. I gave him a pat on the back, thumbs up for you brudder. You very the Can.

Evening was filled with all these kopi talk, Kevin was there... thks for the dinner. kekeke, oh, tuning...

Tuning this 1.5L Suzuki swift turbo charged. This ride's setup was done up by ADM, aka auto design something... I heard they recently closed down, I would like to take this opportunity to thank ADM here, for their contribution to the car modification industry. During which, they have brought in a number of gadets that caught the attention of many, including the media. Again, I thank them for their contribution to this sport.

The engine bay for this ride is really cramp, and the owner, begin an engineer himself has got quite a number of interesting things in his car. One in particular is a laser cut metal sheet to hold his simota carbon charger. Yeah! Laser cutted. Ok, this ride come with a mid-sized turbo that spools up at 3300 rpm to a maximum boost this engine can handle without blowing into bits. What we did was increased his current boost level to a higher one, and retuned the ride. We focused much on day-to-day driving and fuel economy. Torque wise, massive. To our enjoyment, this ride comes with auto transmission gearbox and at 3500 rpm when the turbo kicks in, the torque is high enough for everyone to feel your shoulders pressed back into the seat. 'G' force is strong.

Shiok la. 1.5L can feel 'G' force... hahaha... very good liaoz.

This setup is perfect for street race. 20 lamp post sprints will be perfect. Setup is mid-range bias, meaning the powerband sit comfortable in the 3500~6500 rpm region, coupled with VVT technology, this ride will be an eye opener. Perfectly smooth idling, no stalling and smooth gear transmission. On normal cursing, this ride with the help from suzuki's VVT variable valves timing, ensures fuel economy is retained.

If you have ever driven a subaru forester 2.0 turbo, you will likely to experience a similar driving sensation as compared to this 1.5L turbo. The turbo spooling reaction and the 'g' force felt, plus automatic transmission, you'll liken the experience close to that of the frosty.

The original swift exhaust system is pretty restrictive, owner decides to install a powervalve. Excellent choice! On Boost, when the valve opens, bhp instantly increase, turbo spools up much faster, sound? Gorgeous. The powervalve sounds very similar to vtec opening, but without the buzzing sound. With a free flowing exhaust at high end, the turbo sings it own melody with the powervalve in a distinctive acapella through 7500 rpm which no other engine can reproduce. Like it or not? This is Suzuki.

Overall, I enjoyed myself as much as Sam did doing up this ride, fun factor for this ride, excellent. Very much a mid-range rpm turbo setup, with the high end beefed up heavily by the addition of a powervalve. Engine bay is kept very neat, turbo is hidden from privy eyes, all tuned up with emanage blue.

ps:
Picture? have... later I post,... but from the engine bay, there is no way to tell this ride has been turbo charged. So a little bit of x-ray imagination is requried.

Mitsubishi Lancer glx on unichip

This ride is tune by Sam... :)

According to Tony who test drove this ride, he finds it well tuned. Tony owns a turbo charged lancer glx, and he says this NA lancer glx he test drove, done by sam feels good... Car feels light? hmm... Tony's car is tuned by me, and this car he test drove belongs to his good friend.

"Yesterday, I test drive that lancer done up by Sam. Not bad… HKS mushroom very big; the car is very light
I almost 'destroy' his clutch… hehehe… like pressing a piece of paper "--> tony, after he test drove his friend's lancer glx (Non-turbo), showing off to me he has racing clutch again, farker... like he is the only one around with racing clutch... last time, when he first got his clutch upgraded, he drove like "L" plate driver,... suxz... kekeke

Track day is in our schedules, and we're finalising the plans. Once done, the details will be posted here... For now, drive safe...

Mitsubishi colt plus turbo Boost Up

Mitsubishi colt plus turbo Boost Up

You know, this ride is stock with intake and exhaust modification, plus boost up to 1.x bars of boost. ECU used is unichip Q.

Its so damn simple, sam decided to do it himself. Basically, this ride has problems idling properly, the rpm is consistently fluctuating up and down making the car feel so damn irritating. What sam did was to fix up the idling, make it idle smoothly and then wind up the boost controller to a higher boost level then before.

This ride was previously tuned by M@x and after tuning, all I know is that the idling is now stabalized. Well, Sam tuned this ride himself la, he only leaves the drastically difficult rides to me... asshole.

This evening, I had the oportunity to boost up Gerald's wrx to 2 bars of boost, bat mobile now pulls hard and sure gives his twin plate carbon clutch a good workout. Anyway, its not the first time gerald tried 2 bars la... so, shouldnt be anything exordinary, and I wouldnt expect him to be urtterly impressed by the results anyway. I told him his ride is not a virgin for 2 bars la,... hahaha... nothing that you never tried before lor...

This time round, Gerald puts in a wastegate thats all.... :)

If you wanna read more on his ride, here's the link

A check on our 2.5L subaru TS done recently, owner is very happy with the results and the pinging problem has been permenently resolved! Sam say for this owner to say such thing, you should give yourself a pat on the back and be very happy liaoz.

Race! Xiao jian vs James

Race! Xiao jian vs James

On the line up, we have Xiao jian's 2.5L wrx using forged internals, powervalve and sumo turbo. On James ride, we have Hyundai Tuscani 2.7L turbo charged. Forged Internals and powervalve. James's ride is tuned my our fellow kaki, Derrick-san.

Before the race, we snope around for more information on James's ride. We learnt from sources that this Tuscani 2.7L has never lost a single drag race. Further probing tells us this ride has recently done up his gearbox to allow a better top end power, that means this ride should be able to perform even better than normal and with better top speed, this ride should be able to pull redline with more speed than before. We also learnt that james's engine piston has been damaged recently and will not be able to fix it in time for this drag race. Seems like xiao jian has the advantage this time.

Evening at LCK was warm and the usual cold breeze wasnt around to bring the excitement to a higher level. Both driver shake hands before the race and a quick friendly exchange followed briefly.

You can tell the drivers are concealing their excitement, while the occasional glance they make at each other reveals the uncertainty of the results of tonight's race. It is plain obvious both driver are eager to race and you cannot tell who will cross the finishing line first. Drivers are nervous.

Kevin's YRV turbo was here tonight, Lam's GC8 and about 10 other highly modified rides including Derrick-san's wrx was here to view the race. Tonight's race was set at 30 tiang due to some idoit army tank parked at our usual 40 tiang end point. Rumours that choons motorsport will be here tonight and also Derrick-san's 630 bhp integra type S arriving slightly later in the night.

Race started without warning and all of a sudden, the 2 cars crossing with Tuscani 3 car length infront of Xiao Jian. OMG.

Race 2. Both cars launched perfectly. Headlights turns on and set at high beam. From the end point, it looks like xiao jian's wrx is in front. Excitement mounting. The sound of both the powervalve merges together like an orchestra, both cars pushes hard. Suddenly, the sound of xiao jian's exhaust screams unnaturally in a high pitch note ,clutch slips as the rpm swipes unforgivingly across the dashboard on gear 2. Shit! Clutch Slip! Xiao jian still leading, engages gear 3, floors the accelerator. Rex pulls hard and ait happened again at high rpm when the Sumo turbo force induction attacks the engine, the twin plate carbon clutch slips robbing precious horsepower from the wrx! The rpm is too high for any sensible driver correction and at this rate, no one knows for sure xiao jian's gonna cross the line first. Gear 4 engages at lower rpm than optimal due to the slippage, xiao jian cannot afford to contemplate any further as precious time slips by, with barely 4~5 lamp post remaining, Xiao Jian engages the gear with precision and pumps hard on the gas, hopes for the best. This time, you can tell that the clutch is slipping intermittently. Tuscani enagages gear 4. Wrx engine tries its best at below optima gear shift point...

James's carefully crafted gearbox with top speed bias gearing propels the car forward, xiao jian is now side-by-side with James losing the hard earned lead, with only 3 Lamp post remaining, Tuscani inches forward, everyone inches dangerously forward into the road eagerly, except for Lam holding his camera and tuscani's gearing working its wonders pulls the car forward. Crosses the finishing line with 1 car length ahead of xiao jian.

Curses and swears, then when Tuscani crosses, you can see white smoke coming from the exhaust system.

His tuner Derrick-san signals to James to pit his ride. Xiao Jian alights from his sumo rex, lights up a cigarette and told us clamly, "...I know my ride can pull past... clutch slipping... hahaha... Its so close!..." You can tell that he is trying hard to conceal his spontaneous shivers, that comes uninvited from a drag race.

james alight, shakes xiao jian's hand, "... good race! after my engine is fix, we try again" James said clamly and a smile beaming from his face. "...definately, I'll fix up my clutch also..."

sam for one is confident that in tonight's race, xiao jian is the clear winner. sam is very happy with the results for some reason. For me, I sense the air is filled with total uncertainty. No one claimed victory this evening, with a slipping clutch and the other, a damaged engine, there is no way to confirm the victor. The atmosphere is a little too friendly though we know each other very well, and a common spectator with no one bias to one party, it felt more like a gathering than a drag race. Alan smiling.

Recalling Xiao jian's performance with the Evo previously, that night was totally different. Maybe its because Xiao jian is dragging his rex virgin after tuning and forging his engine. That race, his 1000 per piece twin plate clutch was coorperative and plays it part to win the 5 races.

Well, for me, I know that the sumo's bhp is clearly much higher than jame's monster, but again, in the next race, jame's is going to put in his newly ordered forged pistons and conrods. He has an engine standby for rebuilding which is rumoured to start this weekend. That itself, made me unsure if xiao jian will win in the next race. Then again, sam mentions something about boost 2.x bars for xiao jian.... that would mean a close fight for the finishing line like tonight. We agreed its a draw for tonight.

Tonight, everyone left with uncertainty. No clear winner in a handicapped race. The spirit of racing and sportmanship is strong and breezeless LCK felt less chilly than it usually is. hmm.... When jame's ride left, there was engine oil dripping from his engine compartment, an indication that the engine is more damaged than it was before the 2 race. We all know that this ride cannot take another dose of drag tonight, shake hands and bid goodbye, leaves with gusto.

Rumours of more race is brewing and I'll definately be there to catch a glimpse of the action. For now, goodnight.... happy racing!

Once lam email me the photos, I'll post it... I forgot to bring camera hahaha....

Suzuki Swift sport with Unichip Q

Suzuki Swift sport with Unichip Q

It has been a bloody long time since I posted something about suzuki swift sport. Well,... here's one...

Suzukit swift sport is one of the sporties ride I have driven so far. Car comes out of the factory baked with nice sporty seat that give sufficient side comfort during hard cornerings and space enough to woohoo in the front seat. Suspension system is performance bias and thus have a slightly harder than usual shocks. This ride is extremely road hugging and taking this ride to the tracks assures the driver excellent handling and with luck, good track timing for the weekend.

Owner? I've never met the owner... kekeke... as usual...

What was done to this ride? Modified the intake and exhaust system and tune it using Unichip Q.

Hey, those bhp monsters reading my blog... chill... This kit is basic brudder, it give an addtional 10~15 bhp and hey, most of us have at one point of time or another been through this before. Like Tony's car... last time also stage 2 until he decides to go turbo on his 1.6 lancer glx.

From what I've gathered, the owner is extremely happy with the results... hahaha... for me, thats good enough. Its not always about horsepower, making someone happy is also equally rewarding, look, valentines day is around the corner, you go grab that pack of rubbers and make her happy yah?

Yup, like what we do in our day jobs, some things can get a little mundane and sometimes, we do it so frequently, we can close one eye and still make it work, of course, like all things, a test drive is important to ensure everythings still intact. Well, dun laugh at me ok... kekeke... anyway, I present a stage 2 suzuki swift sport.

Verdict:
LTA friendly, simple low-costs setup, good for non-ambitious users. This is really good for people who just want to spruce your ride up a little,... go turbo if it ain't fast enough for you... Evil kekeke

Speed Clinic - Car Maintenance

Speed Clinic - Car Maintenance

As a tuner, I have been asked frequently on when to change engine oil after the car has been modified. 5000? 9000? or 10,000? Also, I have been asked, when to change tyres...7000? 20,000? 1 year? Also, when to change batteries, timing belt, spark plugs ... the list is endless. Worst still, the car's service manual says 10,000 change oil. Then now, I changed my engine to something else, which should I follow... kekeke... And many have feedbacked to me to write up something brief on whats needed in older cars.

I'm tempted to write loads of stuff here... kekeke ... ok, since Sam is the Doctor, I'll just post my interview with him here... haha

Me: What the fark you do after you surf porn at home?
Sam: CB lah.. where got surf porn. (haha like real)
Me: People wanna know about how you service cars

Sam: Depending on whether it is old car or new car, for old cars, (Sam) need to drive the car to check if there is any problem in the wheel alignment, wheel bearing and check if the engine is running properly. Sometimes, the problem may be due to brake jam and cause the car to experience high fuel consumption, customers putting in brxquet and stuff will not solve the problem... blah blah blah... basically he need to check the car by driving it.

Me: How much you charge?
Sam: If just to check the car and diagnose, clearing cel codes and stuff, about 30~40 bucks there abouts.

Me: and also...
Sam interupts: Eh, you only fark around with funny cars and turbos only. You never see me work most of the time ah.
Me: knn la...

Sam contiunes: ... all our modified cars comes back to see doctor, change oil, claim insurance if kenna accident, fix radiator, do this and that. Eh, not only the cars you played with leh... I got do serving for all sorts of cars, then to return back the lost bhp.
Me: eh.. then the..
Sam interupts: eh, you think easy to make old car become new izzit, you look at my civic, now like new like that...

Me: no lah... what I'm trying to say is...
Sam: Eh, you can make their old car function like new they (customers) very happy already, no need to put turbo they also very happy... (sam then laugh with a tight sense of pride and orgasm)

Me: eh, what you doing now? masturbating ah?
Sam: cb.

Me: what else?
sam: err... you never see those car that come and do serving meh? Sometimes, the brake hose leaking and not because brake pads is old can cause the car to lose its braking power, thats quite common with older cars. Newer cars is more concern with other things. Then older cars the grounding and earthing cables are quite important. If the grounding is not good, the sensor may not read correctly.

Me: New cars leh?
Sam: you know la,... sometimes the spark plugs others put in may not be suitable for the car and stuff... end up car FC not as good. Mostly kenna screwed with wrong parts la... some times people want to buy car, they will drive the car over for a checkup before committing to buy or not...

Me: any more?
Sam: people usually carry my number with them. So, in case they need immediate advise or assistance on what to do in an accident, arranging a tow truck and stuff, they can call me. Eh, my phone bill more than 200 bucks a month leh. You think why my bills so high... because of all this thing I do ..... ( he continues to rattle on... kekeke)

So, best you take down his number, call him up and chit chat with him :)

Sam's Honda EG9 Turbo charged.

Sam's Honda EG9 Turbo charged.

Sam's turbo
This car belongs to Sam. When this car came to workshop, everything was wrong... Its an old car afterall but, look at it today, you can tell this ride came a long way.

The amount of effort Sam placed into this car is as good as re-doing every thing all over again from scratch.

The entire suspension system was changed. The Chassis gets all New lower arms, engine mounting are all new. New radiator, New B20B engine, New engine bearings, New humongasaur turbo, New dash board, New Bride seats, New aircon, New sound system... OMG!! New headlights, all piping in engine bay are New! All of them made of silicon. ECU? yes, you've got it... New Hondata ECU.

New clutch system. kekeke... yes, sam spent a bomb doing this car up. New tyres and New 17" rims. After all has been done, he decides to sell it off... crazy bugger...

I had the oppotunity to test this car. After watching sam working days and nights on this ride, finally, when it is ready, I got the first hand experience driving this baby.

Gear 1... Without launching, the turbo kicks in at 3500 rpm. When the turbo kicks in, the car skids!! OMG, gentleman, a fair bit of skills is required here... and let it the rpm find it way to the vtec opening at 5000 rpm. When the Vtec kicks in. The distinctive Vtec pull and buzz makes the rpm swipe the dashboard for a second or so, then Gear 2 engages. The moment the clutch engages, a pump on the accelerator send the 17" wide profile tyres screaming a bit before sprinting forward for another swipe on the RPM. At this rate, this ride is side-by-side with wrx boosting at 1.2 Bars. Bear in mind, this wrx is not a stock wrx, it is rated at 300 bhp. Gear 3, you hold on to the steering wheel, look forward, breath in and step. The car has the tendency to float a little here... OMG... the extremely light chassis plus a huge turbo on a B20B honda vtec engine sure sends your andrenaline pumping! Gear 4. kekeke... s2000 smell smoke mega. Wrx get a slight advantage here due to a better flowing exhaust on the wrx.

OK, back to the drawing board. This ride is using stock EG9 exhaust. A puny rusty exhaust pipe behind. Yes, back to those good old days, where that eye pricking rusty honda exhaust pipe is in fashion. kekeke... With a better exhaust system like powervalve, you can 100% be assured that this ride's gonna pull like no tomorrow... :)

Looking at the boost meter, the turbo is only boost 0.5 bars of boost! We all know that the B20B honda engine is well capable of taking much more boost. But, 0.5 bars of boost on this EG9 is a clear indication of the size of Sam's balls. If it is Fat Boon driving, hahaha... I am sure the bhp will be at least double what sam is doing now... Just before Sam sold his EG9, he wanted to do up the last 2 on his checklist of modification and win a lambo or skyline, then upload it to youtube or somthing.... I guess we'll have to see someone else do that instead.... kekeke

I enjoyed myself driving this Honda, everything is perfect except for the lack of AWD system as seen in Evo and WRX. Nevertheless, this ride is an eye popper. There was once Sam opened his bonnet and another turbo charged esi almost choked when he saw the size of Sam's turbo. Another guy who used to drive integras commented that anyone who has every played Honda, by looking at the height of this engine, you will not want to drive this. Its just too fierce by the looks alone.

Still, we know that there are people out there who dreams of owning car like this and sam have already got people offering to buy his car since the day it was ready.

This ride is a complete make-over. One that can go into discovery channel to show off the amount of work taken to do up this ride... everything he said about how it should be is found on his honda. Overall, I find it a pity to sell this car away, even his worker also felt reluctant to part with such a ride. Again, we never know what sam's thinking... maybe to him its just something he enjoys doing, like masturbating.... who knows...

Once again, I salute this Honda B20B with huge turbo.... mega turbo... you can put your fist into the turbo inlet and shake around... thats how big this turbo is.... coolz...

Potential? Currently, only 50% of what it can achieve.... :) I'll try to get a picture of this ride's engine soon... probably post it by this weekend...

ps:
HDB Prop. asks > is workshop is open to all and specifically highlights a lancer 1.6 glx. Well, workshop is open to all. In fact, the lancer glx is one of the best ride to modify.

A little update on Sam's ride... you see, for me to install a powervalve, I had to wait 3~4 months before sam got the time to install it on my ride... For his own Honda, 2 days.... you see my point. Sometimes, when the thing is yours and you enjoy what you're doing, you can do it almost immediately. :)

Subaru 1.6 TS with 2.5L engine

Subaru 1.6 TS with 2.5L engine

This engine has an upgraded short-block which transforms the car from a 1.6L to a 2.5L ride. Coupled with AWD system, this ride is no longer a fuel savvy low granny TS anymore. The 1.6L version is truely underpowered, and putting in a 2.5L engine puts you into the category of Camry 2.4, Honda accord 2.4 or our Volvo S40 2.4

The low end torque of this 2.5L ride ensures a head slamming effect similar to those of small turbos. From the outside of this ride, you cannot detect anything. Extremely stealthy. Besides the upsized engine, everything else is as per normal.

I'm the 5th or 6th tuner attempting to tune this ride. Ride is consistently pinging at low rpms, at around 2000~3000 rpm region, the engine is detonating during light accelerations. Gear shifting is very rough and give it a few more months of this pinging, you can kiss this 2.5L engine good-bye...

Owner is not new to car modifications. Previously, he owns a subaru wrx, mitsubishi colt turbo charged running on microtech ecu. And definately, he know what pinging is about. He is a very humble person and looks for another tuner to help make right whats wrong on his ride.

The interior of this ride is sleek, clean and comfortable. It feels like a luxury car and with a 2.5L engine, everything's just nice. Power is sufficient to move around traffic and comfortable interior with a nice quiet bubbly exhuast system, gives the passengers a mild feel of how a boxer engine should sound like, without bursting their ear drums.

I told the owner that 2.5L short block with automatic transmission on a Subaru TS is the most difficult setup to tune. For this, I advise him to give his previous tuners a little more space for error... Afterall, I'm the 5th or 6th tuner trying my luck on his ride. Previous tuners who touched his ride are people who are well known in the market. Some with very good reputation, while other not quite. We have Zerx Gravxxx, M@x, Andrxx... again, these tuners are good tuners, it is just not their day to meet with a car setup this way... Also, I repeatedly asked the owner to try understand that his ride is really very difficult to tune.

Ok, cut the crap. Why is this ride so different? Very simply, the relearning ability of the subaru TS is extreme. This ride is super sensitive to any sort of modification. So much that Sam has to stick his hands into the engine bay to tweak around the hardware to make things work out fine. Like Sam always say... Tuning cannot do miracles... he like to suan me with this, and it ok one... I just need to show my kung fu in this ride can liaoz ... kekeke

I removed the pinging at low rpms and also done something to make the auto transmission shift gears smoothly. Since the pinging occurs frequently during hard acceleration, Sam had to step hard on the gas, release it, step release.. brake.. step... brake step... oh!!! And all this while, my eyes was glued on the laptop... After 3 hours of this on-slaught, I felt nauseous. During one of our runs along a ulu road, sam suddenly said " Shit!" ... he quickly stopped the vehicle and rushes out... I looked puzzled. He rushes to the nearby drain, whispers some invocation to annouce his arrival and send a stream of warm urine into the drains. I wonders if he remembers sillypore now got New water or not... cb, I thought what the fark happened... knn... urine! wah lan...

Well, i took a good breather and finally, when we gave the vehicle to the owner, I specifically asked that he troubleshoot and test all the areas which has problem. Its only during the second test drive, that all problems was resolved.

Stepping hard on the accelerator, your head will surely slam backwards. Low end torque on this ride is tremendous. The car pulls hard till 5000 rpm where is starts to lose the luster which can be found only in Vtec high lift cams and turbo charged rides. During day-to-day drives, this car gives the driver the feeling that the car is very light. Powerwise, I would rate this around 150 bhp... roughly...

That evening, I went home with butterflies in my stomach... kekeke... The feeling of satisfaction and the smile on the owner's face is invaluable, all that was on my mind as I sat down on the couch was how I used to feel last time when I owned this setup. Owner was amazed by the results. Sam for one wasnt convinced that the mappings I put into this ride is correct. I had to assure him that I am driving this same ride for years liaoz... and I also told him that tuning this ride, you cannot use the conventional methods of what the books tells you. Otherwise, be prepared to end up with the line of tuners who failed.

He says this ride feels very good... hahaha... I just smiled and told him, I liked it too, it was one of my fravourite setups, minus the big bhp numbers, this ride's setup is fabulous.

I briefed the owner on what to expect on this ride and exactly what will happen and the reasons why it happens. I told him to keep me and all that I have done to himself, since we didnt want people swarming over asking this and that... :)

Next day, owner came over to workshop to clean up the flimpsy wirings... I had the opportunity to ask him about his ride. I am happy to hear that he find the auto transmission shifts gear smoother without jerking anymore. No stalling, and no pinging. I asked him to drive for a couple more days and let me know if there is any more issues, I'll gladly resolve them.

Fuel consumption on this ride is now similar to a Camry 2.4 or a Volvo S40 2.4. A 2.0 integra type R will also have similar FC as compared to this 2.5L TS. Of course... its a big CC car now... :) Bearing in mind that a TCed 1.6L will yield better FC compared to a 2.5L NA.... Again driving big CC cars is a class on it own...

Overall, this setup is suitable for people who wants everything else stock. LTA friendly and just wants a the power of a bigger CC ride. Its like buying a 2.5L TS. Although the power is not as huge as a Turbo charged TS, this ride will not lose to the 1.6 TCed TS by far. ECU we used this time is Unichip Version Q.

ps:
Many readers have feedback to put up more pictures... No problem... I'll get it from Sam first... then for newer setups, I'll get ready my lao pok camera and load the pics... :)

Car Modifications

Car Modifications

Every now and then, I have people asking me why I modified my ride. Why I made the car this fast and waste so much money on it... well, then I would ask what an ideal weekend would be for them, or sometimes, I would ask, which country did they visited lately.

The answer from them can sometimes be amazing, for one, they just took 3 months of no-pay leave and went on a round-the-world trip of their life. Well, the amount of money they spent on that trip can easily buy you a GT-R and still have enough cash for a trip to Camaeroon... There's some who would spend the weekend going to Batam for golf, and they amount of money they wasted on that S-yard golf club is insane. Well, they say it improves their strokes and that Odessey putter which can easily match the price of a TD-04 turbo can improve their putting. hmm...

Then there are some that spent so much on that gaming console, using the latest Nvidia graphics card which can easliy pay for a bolt-on turbo kit, and to set up the entire 2 mb core2 duo processer with Scarzi cards, ohh... thats gonna cost a bomb.

Then there are some which spent thousands on every new year for that famous geomancer to have their feng shui told for their houses. They would then spend a couple more thousand to do what their Si-fu instructs them.

Oh, then for me, it is just to make my car faster, smelling the exhuast fumes, rubbing turbos and stuff... not too evil I guess... For me it is that andrenaline rush on a drag race, the satisfaction of tuning a ride that is fast, smooth and for that feeling of achievement when the car pulls that red-line. When it all works out, the feeling is as good as a hole-in-one on a par 3. When the car wins the race, the feeling goes round the world in 1 minute. Well, it make me happy :)

I always say, the thing that makes you smile is priceless. If it make you laugh, remember it. In life, there are so many things that floats around and many of them arrives at your door step uninvited. Those times, you just want to leave it as-is and call it quits. A trip to the workshop for me settles everything ... hahaha funny... yes... it does. Fortunately, there are more like myself around who prefers car modification more than gambling, or golfing... :) So, I'm not alone I guess...

I know of a doctor who goes under the car and change his engine oil himself.... he got his hands covered with oil dirt and some of these goes on his face. Mind you... he is not a Vet... he gives you the MC for the day so that you can go fishing without taking your precious annual leave. So, doctor goes under the car and meddle his ride... you see, Doc's car is done up with lots of reading and knowledge, most of the things he did comes with tonnes of read up and explanation. A lot of room for error and much more for that practical experience which only a few is priveledged enough to experience it.

If I'm a doctor,.... hmm... I donno what I'll be doing... maybe thats why I'm not doctor... Sam calls himself car-doctor.... so he calls his workshop speed-clinic... hahahaha... cb right? hahahaa... i call myself nurse lor... hahahaha cb!! CB nurse hahahaha.... tuning nursing..... ok ok... enough ... hahaha... NURSE!! muahahahaha... doctor screws nurse... hahaa...okokok..

And you thought this thread is gonna explain car modifications? hahaha... fark la... I hate my day job coz, no one listens to me anymore.. hahaha... at least in car modification, every people listen to everyone... owner tells their stories... you tell them yours... everyone listens to everyone... at least for Sam that is....

I'm a straight forward person...this at times can offend people which I can only apologize when there's a chance to do so,... sometimes, it about mistakes we make... well,... good, it only shows us human to its very core... though its rare, but, still have one la... the only way to go about this is to forge a good working relation between the racer and us. Similarly in WRC, where the relation between the wrc driver and the pit crew is paramount. Crew must know what driver is experiencing, only then can they progress. Similar to F1, the passion of racing is ozzing from every bit of action we see. Thats why F1 is still in the sports section of the straits times and not in the political or worse money section. If it ends up in the advertisment section only, then motorsport is screwed. Experience does help us alot, but, there is always something new in the market, and because sam and myself is always going for the latest technology, placed us in this zone of discomfort. Its exciting no doubt about it and fortunately, we have customers who enjoys them as much as we do. Its a passion click thing which is a must have for our customers. Well, business wise, if it is to close a deal, then we stick to the traditional sure works method. This sadly falls under 90% of our job. And trust me, I always grumble when it comes to mundane job of tuning a stock ride or maybe a puny turbo boosting 1.5 bars, I only grumble to sam of course... no choice, still have to do, but, good news is that the 10% of new tech bring a fresh scent of excitement which till today, still exists... The recent turbo kits for our very new 1.5 Lancer Ex bring me fresh incense which carries a lot of satisfaction which my daily work sadly lacks by far.

Its not always about horsepower... if you havent really noticed... It about the trills of car modifications. These trills comes at a cost of course and only regular dose of this potion can keep many of us alive and going. So, for those who eagerly waits for that yearly trip to neverland, I'll wait for sam to do his turbo kit for Lancer 1.5 Ex hahahaha... that powervalve for that Vios... OMG! wet...

Stay safe, keep smiling and see you guys soon...

Kudos!

Fiat NA 'tuned' up

Fiat NA 'tuned' up

Its the CNY season, long breaks, good rest, reunions are on everyones picking lists, for some, like Tony, he goes to Pasir Gudang for some drag race... yah... siao...

After CNY, everythings quiet for a while and we have a Fiat 1.4 coming over by the recommendation of our YRV turbo boosting 1.2 bars and winning many races, asking for a re-tune.

Fiat owner complains of lack of power and also funny jerky feeling when driving around on sillypore streets. I was reluctant to tune this ride for various reasons and Sam has the task of checking his ride's hardware to confirm what need to be done before my turn to check the computers.

Under Sam's scutiny, we revealed a stock Fiat with nothing done, except for an Aftermart piggyback Unichip version D.

Sam knows me well enough to tell him straight off, that I will not tune his ride. Unless of course, a few minor modification is done, there is seriously no point tuning this ride.

Before Sam did anything, he placed something into his car's ECU. Yeah... something perculiar. And removing the ignition voltage sparking enhancer. I caution the use of such devices if you simply read off the net on their product review, without first asking professional opinion on the truth behind these products. Understanding the makes and mech of these devices is sadly not sufficent for a layman to be able to go beyond the curtain to see the truth behind them and decide if the ride is going to really benefit from this. Truely, most of these products does in fact, do what they claim to be doing, but, in essence, most people would be better off without them. For example, we know viagra help in our sexual persuit of the hardest erection ever, but, in reality, grabing your dick in the shower room also shows the diamond hard muscle your dick has even without the help from popeye's spinich.

So, we removed the stainless steel designed spark plug optimizer from this ride and placed something to the ECU. We then ask the owner to go test drive his ride.

On returning, there were wide smiles and an aura of satisfaction surrounding the owner, he does resembles a paladin of rush and quickly asked what was done to his ride. Ride now feels sporty, responsive and the flat spots are now gone.

The thing Sam placed on the ECU is a device which by-passed the Unichip ECU and reverted the car to it original state. Simply, its as good as not running unichip at all. Now, in many instances, Unichip does help the car alot. However, in some situation more hardware is required to achieve the same desired results.

Owner shows a mixed feeling of being cheated and an idoit. Trying to be sensitive to such situations is paramount at this point of time. Trust me. We suggested some basic modification to his exhaust system, like removal of the catalatic converter and probably a better flowing intake system would benefit the ride before tuning the ride.

Well, for certain reasons, the owner wasnt very keen on the modifications we suggested and insisted for a re-tune which we politely declined. For those who know us personally like Mr Sean and our dear Gerald ond our Mr Alan / xiao jian and company.... you guys know that I for one is not in for your money kekeke... Sam? well, to a certain extent yes, and the good news is that he is too honest to cheat people, so luckily, his character overwhelms his desire to earn money by far... hahaha... who doesnt like money anyway, but many-a-times, its our conscience that made the decision otherwise.

Ok, owner's contenance reveals much, and that of the sort that tell you he has heard enough and would be more careful in future. ok, thats so much for now... :)

For those people who enjoys every single bit of NA (natural modification) and to those that hates turbo chargers.... well, heres my take... I too enjoyed every moment of my NA modifications, but at certain point of my modifications, I desired for more horse power which NA cannot achieve within my limited resources. Turbo was the most economic dollar per bhp and I went that way.

Well, in my pursuit for power in NA modifications, I tried enough hardware to give a extremely long write up which can be accompanied by their related technical notes which I would leave that outside our blog. I am extremely tempted to put it here, but, lets just keep that for our workshops discussions with Sam.

There are alot of modification which I have done in the past which doesnt produce any significant results. Well, I did it anyway for fun. Yes, fun only... it make me happy, so I did it anyway... hahaha... after that, I return it to the forum's For-Sale folder for the next trigger-happy netizen or the rubbish bin lor... Those thing usually don't cost more than 200~300 bucks to begin with... kekeke...

Looking ahead, we have 2 more lancer Ex 1.5 turbo charged in our schedules after this CNY, I havent decided if it is going to be Unichip or Emanage ultimate, hmm..., till then, keep smiling and enjoy the rest of this CNY... sam say he got alot of photos for me to post here... hahahaha... next time, when go watch drag race, I'll take some photos to share.... kekeke
